Description
量制御方法に係り、特にGOP単位の符号量制御方法に
関する。
Mやハードディスク、磁気テープなどの記録媒体に記録
する場合、そのデータ量は膨大なものとなるため、通常
は圧縮符号化して記録される。
が、画像の持つ2次元空間内の相関を効率良く利用する
直交変換を用いた変換符号化が良く用いられ、特に直交
変換としてDCTをベースとした符号化方式がカラー静
止画標準のJPEG(Joint Photograp
hic Expert Group)や蓄積メディア用
動画像符号化標準(MPEG:Moving Pict
ures Expert Group)などの国際標準
の符号化方式で採用されている。

る。図8は従来の画像符号化装置の一例のブロック図で
ある。この従来の画像符号化装置は、画像入力部31か
ら圧縮対象の画像データを入力し、入力された画像デー
タを前処理部32で8画素×8画素等の2次元のブロッ
クに分割し、動き検出部33で前後のフレーム間でのブ
ロックの動きを検出し、DCT部34、量子化部35、
可変長符号化部36で圧縮を行う。また、フレーム間予
測を行うため、逆量子化部39、逆DCT部で伸長し、
フレームバッファ41に画像データを保存する。圧縮し
た画像は画像出力部37から出力する。

Gに準拠した符号化画像を作成することができる。しか
し、圧縮対象の画像データの絵柄によって発生する符号
量が異なるため、低処理速度のCPUを用いて圧縮した
画像データを伸長するとき、なめらかに再生できない可

ァ22に入力されている符号化データの占有量を表し、
横軸は1フレーム分の符号化データが入力されたときの
時間を表している。また、バッファサイズは、バッファ
22の最大容量を意味する。また、入力された符号化デ
ータがバッファ22をオーバフローした場合、伸長する
ときに必要なデータが欠落するため正常に再生できない
ことになる。

号量はGOP毎に初期化される。

ような圧縮データを編集し、連結するとバッファをオー
バフローする可能性がある。

を計数し、1GOP内のフレーム数を取得し、残りのフ
レーム数とGOP内のフレーム数から最後のGOPが途
中で終わっているかを調べる構成としたものである。

により、伸長時に使用するバッファ内にデータを残すこ
となく、符号化した画像を再生することができる。

画像符号化装置のブロック図である。この画像符号化装
置は、圧縮対象の画像データを入力するための画像入力
部1と、入力された画像データを8画素×8画素等の2
次元のブロックに分割する前処理部2と、前後のフレー
ム間でのブロックの動きを検出する動き検出部3と、フ
レーム構成や量子化係数を決定する制御パラメータ設定
部4と、ブロック分割された画像データを離散コサイン
変換するDCT部5と、DCT部5の結果を量子化する
量子化部6と、量子化部6の結果を可変長符号化する可
変長符号化部7と、量子化係数を決定する符号量制御部
9と、圧縮された画像を伸長する逆量子化部10と、逆
DCT部11と、伸長された1フレームのデータを保管
するフレームバッファ12と、圧縮された画像を出力す
る画像出力部8とから構成される。
画像データをMPEGに準拠した圧縮画像として出力す
る。そこで、まずMPEGの符号フォーマットの階層構
造について図3と共に説明する。MPEGでは一番上の
階層が動画のシーケンス(ビデオ・シーケンス)であ
り、図3(A)に示す如く複数のグループ・オブ・ピク
チャ(GOP)から構成される。一つのGOPは図3
(B)に示すように複数のフレーム(ピクチャ)からな
る。GOPはフレーム内符号化画像であるIピクチャ
と、すでに符号化された時間的に前のフレームから予測
するフレーム間符号化画像であるPピクチャと、時間的
に前後の2フレームから予測するフレーム間符号化画像
であるBピクチャの計3種類から構成されている。
PピクチャとBピクチャは符号量が小さいという性質が
ある。
意の領域に分割された複数のスライスから構成される。
スライスは図3(D)に示すように左から右へ、又は上
から下への順序で並んだ複数のマクロブロックから構成
される。また、一つのマクロブロックは、図3(E)に
示すように、隣接する4つの輝度成分ブロックY1〜Y
4と、それに位置的に対応する領域の1個の色差成分ブ
ロックCb及び1個の色差成分ブロックCrの計6個の
ブロックから構成される。

動き予測補償の最小単位はマクロブロックである。
フォーマットについて図4と共に説明する。入力画像は
各階層毎にシーケンスヘッダSeq、GOP毎に付加さ
れるGOPヘッダGop、各ピクチャを識別させるため
のピクチャヘッダPic、各スライスを識別させるため
のスライスヘッダSlice、各マクロブロックを識別
させるためのマクロヘッダMacro、ブロックの符号
Blockとから構成される。
1フレーム目の先頭のみに配置されるシーケンスヘッダ
Seqには、シーケンスヘッダのスタートコードを示す
SeqStart、バッファ22から可変長復号化部2

11のフローチャートと共に説明する。図11では、ま
ずはじめに現在のフレームがGOPの先頭のフレームで
あるかを調べる(ステップ81)。GOPの先頭であれ
ば、GOP内のフレーム数を取得する(ステップ8
2)。次に圧縮対象の画像データの全フレーム中で符号
化処理を行っていない残りのフレーム数を取得する(ス
テップ83)。
フレーム数の2倍と、ステップ83で得られた残りのフ
レーム数とを比較する(ステップ84)。残りのフレー
ム数のほうが小さいときは、次のGOPの途中で符号化
処理が終わることになるため、現在のGOPと次のGO
P、すなわち最後のGOPとを結合する。このとき、最
後のGOPにおけるIピクチャについてはPピクチャと
見なしてGOPを構成する(ステップ85)。ステップ
85の概念図を図12に示す。次にGOP内のIピクチ
ャとPピクチャとBピクチャのそれぞれの総数を取得す
る(ステップ86)。GOPの先頭でなければ、現在の
GOP内で符号化処理を行っていない各ピクチャの個数
を調べる(ステップ87)。次に現在のフレームについ
ての目標符号量を算出する(ステップ88)。

Claims (3)
- 【請求項1】画像を複数のブロックに分割し、この分割
した各ブロック毎に離散コサイン変換を行い、変換出力
を量子化し、可変量子化された変換出力を可変長符号化
することによりフレーム内符号化画像を作成し、 前記の各ブロック毎に現フレームとそれよりも時間的に
前又は前後の両方のフレームで最も差分が小さくなるよ
うなブロックを検索して動き補償を行い、現フレームの
ブロックと動き補償されたブロックとの差分値に対して
離散コサイン変換を行い、変換出力を量子化し、量子化
された変換出力を可変長符号化することによりフレーム
間符号化画像を作成し、 前記のフレーム内符号化画像の後に前記のフレーム間符
号化画像が数フレーム続くようなフレーム構成を持つフ
レームの集まり(GOP)を多数連続して作成する画像
信号の符号化方法であり、各GOPの最初のフレームにおいて、未符号化のフレー
ム数がGOPの所定のフレーム数の2倍とを比較し、未
符号化のフレーム数が小である場合には、次のGOPで
ある最後のGOPが途中で終了するフレーム構成である
と判定し、 前記最後のGOPが途中で終了するフレーム
構成であるとき、最後のGOPと一つ前のGOPを結合
して 符号化することを特徴とすることを特徴とする画像
信号の符号化方法。 - 【請求項2】前記最後のGOPと判定されたGOPで、
Iピクチャとして符号化されるべきフレームは、Pピク
チャとして符号化されることを特徴とする請求項1に記
載の画像信号の符号化方法。 - 【請求項3】前記最後のGOPが途中で終了するフレー
ム構成であるとき、前のGOPの目標符号量から最後の
GOPの各々のフレームの目標符号量を算出し、この目
標符号量に基づいてこの最後のGOPの各フレームを符
号化することを特徴とする請求項1記載の画像信号の符
化方法。
