Abstract
Description
本発明において有用なフルオロポリマーは、50重量%を超えるフルオロモノマー単位、好ましくは65重量%を超える、より好ましくは75重量%を超える、最も好ましくは90重量%を超える1つ以上のフルオロモノマーを有する熱可塑性ホモポリマー及びコポリマーである。フルオロポリマーの形成に有用なフルオロモノマーとしては、限定的ではないが、フッ化ビニリデン(VDF又はVF2)、テトラフルオロエチレン(TFE)、トリフルオロエチレン(TrFE)、クロロトリフルオロエチレン(CTFE)、ヘキサフルオロプロペン(HFP)、フッ化ビニル(VF)、ヘキサフルオロイソブチレン(HFIB)、ペルフルオロブチルエチレン(PFBE)、ペンタフルオロプロペン、3,3,3−トリフルオロ−1−プロペン、2−トリフルオロメチル−3,3,3−トリフルオロプロペン、及びペルフルオロメチルエーテル(PMVE)、ペルフルオロエチルビニルエーテル(PEVE)、パーフルオロプロピルビニルエーテル(PPVE)、パーフルオロブチルビニルエーテル(PBVE)、長鎖パーフルオロ化ビニルエーテルを含むフルオロ化ビニルエーテル、及びフルオロ化ジオキソール、C4以上の部分的又はペルフルオロ化アルファオレフィン、C3以上の部分的又はペルフルオロ化環状アルケン、並びにそれらの組み合わせがある。
本発明の複合体のフルオロポリマーマトリックスは、米国特許第7,241,817号に記載されているように、不飽和カルボキシル官能性モノマーでグラフト化されたフルオロポリマーのいくらかの量を含む。グラフト化プロセスには次のステップが含まれる。
a)フルオロポリマーと不飽和モノマーを溶融ブレンドする;
b)a)で得られたブレンドをフィルム、シート、顆粒又は粉末に成形する。
c)ステップb)の生成物を空気がない状態で、1〜15Mradの線量の光子(γ)又は電子(β)照射にさらす。そして
d)c)で得られた生成物は、任意的に、フルオロポリマーにグラフト化されていない不飽和モノマーの全部又は一部を除去するために処理される。
チョップド繊維束の形成に有用な繊維には、カーボン繊維、ガラス繊維、アラミド繊維、ポリアミド繊維、PEEK若しくはPEKK繊維、カーボンナノチューブ、及びそれらの混合物が含まれるが、これらに限定されない。
本発明のフルオロポリマー/チョップド繊維化合物は、チョップド繊維を含まないフルオロポリマーと比較して収縮が減少し、剛性および強度が改善され、また、カルボキシルグラフト化官能基を含まないフルオロポリマーマトリックス中のチョップド繊維の化合物よりも改善された特性を有する。
フルオロポリマー/チョップド繊維複合材は、強度、引張および曲げ特性の改善が望まれるさまざまな製品を形成することができる。当分野の通常の技術を有する者は、以下の非限定的な例に基づいて、炭素繊維複合材料の多くの用途を想像することができる。さらに、本発明者らが感じるのは、繊維とマトリックスとの間の接着の増加であり、これらの化合物の耐薬品性が改善されることが予想される。用途には、限定的ではないが、ダウンホール、自動車、化学プロセス産業用途向けの成形部品用の製品が含まれる。
1)CT−702は、東邦テナックスから入手可能なチョップドカーボン繊維である。
2)Panex 35タイプ83は、Zoltek−Torayから入手可能なチョップドカーボン繊維である。
3)無水マレイン酸グラフト化PVDFは、Arkema Incから入手可能なKYNAR(登録商標)ADX120(またはADX 111)である。
4)この例の6 kpoise PVDFホモポリマーは、Arkema Incから入手可能なKYNAR(登録商標)720である。
Claims (7)
- 以下を含むフルオロポリマー化合物:
a)5〜40、好ましくは5〜25重量%のチョップド繊維、及び
b)カルボキシルによりグラフト化された官能基化フルオロポリマーを含むマトリックス。 - 前記グラフト化フルオロポリマーが、50重量%を超えるフッ化ビニリデンを有するホモポリマー又はコポリマー、又はエチレンとテトラフルオロエチレンモノマー単位を含むコポリマーである、請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物。
- 前記マトリックスポリマーが、前記ポリマーマトリックスの重量に対して、3〜100重量%、好ましくは5〜20重量%のカルボキシルグラフト化フルオロポリマーを含む、請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物。
- 前記カルボキシルによりグラフト化された官能基化フルオロポリマーは、不飽和モノマーに対してそれぞれが75〜99.9%と0.1〜25%、好ましくはそれぞれが90〜99.9%と0.1〜10%になるように含み、より好ましくは1〜5重量%の不飽和グラフト化モノマーを含む、請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物。
- 前記カルボキシルによりグラフト化された官能基化フルオロポリマーが、前記グラフト化された官能基性として無水マレイン酸を含む、請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物。
- 前記チョップド繊維が、カーボン繊維、ガラス繊維、アラミド繊維、ポリアミド繊維、PEKK、PEEK、シリカ繊維、カーボンナノチューブ、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物。
- 請求項1に記載のフルオロポリマー化合物から形成される製品。
