Abstract
IPS方式の液晶表示装置において、低温衝撃気泡の発生を抑制し、且つ基板内部の電極等の損傷を防止することのできる液晶表示装置を提供する。
【解決手段】
TFT基板2と、カラーフィルタ(CF)基板1と、液晶層6と、TFT基板2上に形成された壁構造体4と、少なくとも壁構造体4の側面に設けられた画素電極8と、TFT基板2上及びCF基板1上に形成され、対向する共通電極5及び対向電極9とを有し、TFT基板2と、CF基板1と液晶層6とを含む複数の画素を備え、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの周辺に遮光領域を有し、壁構造体4は前記遮光領域に配置されており、壁構造体4の上面に、透明で、且つ弾性を有する材料で形成された支持体3が配置され、CF基板1は、支持体3によって支持され、液晶層6は、画素電極8及び、共通電極5及び対向電極9によって生成される電界によって駆動されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。

Description
(1) 第一基板と、前記第一基板に対向するように設けられた第二基板と、前記第一基板と前記第二基板との間に設けられた液晶層と、前記第一基板上に形成された壁構造体と、少なくとも前記壁構造体の側面に設けられた第一電極と、前記第一基板上及び前記第二基板上に形成され、対向する一対の電極からなる第二電極とを有し、前記第一基板と、前記第二基板と前記液晶層とを含む複数の画素を備え、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの周辺に遮光領域を有し、前記壁構造体は前記遮光領域に配置されており、前記壁構造体の上面に、透明で、且つ弾性を有する材料で形成された支持体が配置され、前記第二基板は、前記支持体によって支持され、前記液晶層は、前記第一電極及び前記第二電極によって生成される電界によって駆動されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置である。
図1は、本発明の液晶表示装置における画素構成を模式的に表す断面図であり、図2は、本発明の液晶表示装置における画素構成を模式的に表す平面図である。
本発明の液晶表示装置は、図1に示すように、第一基板であるTFT基板2と、TFT基板2に対向するように設けられた第二基板であるカラーフィルタ(CF)基板1と、TFT基板2とCF基板1との間に設けられた液晶層6と、TFT基板2上に形成された壁構造体4と、少なくとも壁構造体4の側面に設けられた第一電極である画素電極8と、TFT基板2上及びCF基板1上に形成され、対向する共通電極5及び対向電極9とを有し、TFT基板2と、CF基板1と液晶層6とを含む複数の画素を備え、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの周辺に遮光領域を有し、壁構造体4は前記遮光領域に配置されており、壁構造体4の上面に、透明で、且つ弾性を有する材料で形成された支持体3が配置され、CF基板1は、支持体3によって支持され、液晶層6は、画素電極8及び、共通電極5及び対向電極9によって生成される電界によって駆動されることを特徴とする。

Claims (4)
- 第一基板と、
前記第一基板に対向するように設けられた第二基板と、
前記第一基板と前記第二基板との間に設けられた液晶層と、
前記第一基板上に形成された壁構造体と、
前記壁構造体の少なくとも側面に設けられた第一電極と、
前記第一基板上及び前記第二基板上に形成され、対向する一対の電極からなる第二電極とを有し、
前記第一基板と、前記第二基板と前記液晶層とを含む複数の画素を備え、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれの周辺に遮光領域を有し、
前記壁構造体は前記遮光領域に配置されており、
前記壁構造体の上面に、透明で、且つ弾性を有する材料で形成された支持体が配置され、
前記第二基板は、前記支持体によって支持され、
前記液晶層は、前記第一電極及び前記第二電極によって生成される電界によって駆動されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、前記支持体の高さは0.2μm以上0.6μm以下であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置において、前記支持体の、前記第二基板に対する単位面積当たりの接触面積率は0.05%以上0.4%以下であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置において、前記支持体は、インクジェット法又はフィルム転写により形成されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
