Claims (21)
- 脳冷却装置であって、
患者の鼻孔を通じて患者の鼻腔内へ挿入するように成された第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーであって、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーは、近位側端部と、遠位側端部と、前記近位側端部と前記遠位側端部との間で延びる第1の管腔と、前記第1の管腔と流体的に連通する複数のポートと、前記近位側と遠位側との端部間で延びる第2の管腔とを備え、前記第2の管腔が前記複数のポートの遠位側において前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーに取り付けられている膨張可能なメンバーと連通する、第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーと、
前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1および第2の管腔と流体的に連通するマニホールドであって、前記マニホールドが、更に、第2の細長いチューブ状メンバーと連通する、マニホールドと、
前記第2の細長いチューブ状メンバーと連通する、加圧流体を収容したレザバーとを備え、
前記加圧流体が、前記レザバーから、前記マニホールドを通じて、前記第2の管腔に流入して前記膨張可能なメンバーを膨らませ、前記第1の管腔に流入し、前記複数のポートを通過する、
脳冷却装置。 - 第3および第4のチューブ状メンバーを更に備え、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1の管腔が前記第3の細長いチューブ状メンバーの管腔と連通し、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第2の管腔は前記第4の細長いチューブ状メンバーの管腔と連通し、前記マニホールドが前記第3の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記管腔と前記第4の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記管腔とに流体的に連通している、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 患者の第2の鼻孔を通じて前記患者の鼻腔に挿入するように成された第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーであって、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーは、近位側端部と、遠位側端部と、前記近位側端部と前記遠位側端部との間で延びる第1の管腔と、前記第1の管腔と流体的に連通する複数のポートと、前記近位側と遠位側との端部間で延びる第2の管腔とを備え、前記第2の管腔が前記複数のポートの遠位側において前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーに取り付けられている膨張可能なメンバーと連通する、第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーを備え、
前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1の管腔は前記第3の細長いチューブ状メンバーの第2の管腔と連通し、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第2の管腔は前記第4の細長いチューブ状メンバーの第2の管腔と連通し、
前記マニホールドは前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1および第2の管腔と流体的に連通し、
前記加圧流体が、前記レザバーから、前記マニホールドを通じて、前記第4のチューブ状メンバーに流入して前記第1および第5のチューブ状メンバーの前記遠位側端部に取り付けられた前記膨張可能なメンバーを膨らませ、また、前記第3のチューブ状メンバーに流入し、前記第1および第5のチューブ状メンバーに設けられた前記複数のポートを通過する、請求項2に記載の装置。 - 前記加圧流体が22℃未満の沸点を有する流体を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記加圧流体が22℃未満の沸点を有する推進剤と37℃未満の沸点を有する冷却用流体とを含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 37℃未満の沸点を有する前記流体がペルフルオロカーボンと、ハイドロフルオロカーボンと、フルオロカーボンとからなるグループから選択される冷媒を含む、請求項5に記載の装置。
- 前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーが、更に、前記バルーンの近位側に位置する吸引用のポートと、前記近位側と遠位側との端部間で延びる第3の管腔とを備え、前記第3の管腔が前記鼻腔から過剰な液体を吸引するための前記吸引用のポートと流体的に連通する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記マニホールドが、更に、チェックバルブを備え、前記チェックバルブは、前記マニホールドと第2の管腔とを通じて導かれる圧力が前記膨張可能なメンバーの詰め込み圧力を超えるまで、前記加圧流体が前記第1の管腔を通じて流れるのを防止するように構成されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 更に、前記第2の管腔と流体的に連通する圧力解放バルブを備える、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 更に、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーに設けられた前記送給ポートの近位側に取り付けられた第2の閉塞用メンバーを備える、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 脳を冷却するための方法であって、
患者の鼻孔を通じて患者の鼻腔内へ挿入するように成された第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーであって、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーは、近位側端部と、遠位側端部と、前記近位側端部と前記遠位側端部との間で延びる第1の管腔と、前記第1の管腔と流体的に連通する複数のポートと、前記近位側端部と前記遠位側端部との間で延びる第2の管腔とを備え、前記第2の管腔が前記複数のポートの遠位側において前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーに取り付けられているバルーンと連通する、第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーと
前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1および第2の管腔と流体的に連通するマニホールドであって、前記マニホールドが、更に、第2の細長いチューブ状メンバーと連通する、マニホールドと、
前記第2の細長いチューブ状メンバーと連通する、加圧流体を収容したレザバーとを備える、冷却アセンブリを提供するステップと、
前記バルーンと複数のポートとが前記鼻腔内に位置付けられるように、前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーを、患者の鼻孔を通じて、前記患者の鼻腔内へ挿入するステップと
前記レザバーからの前記加圧流体を、前記マニホールドを通じて前記第2の管腔内に注入することにより、前記バルーンを膨らませるステップと、
前記レザバーからの前記加圧流体を、前記マニホールドを通じて前記第1の管腔内に注入し、前記複数のポートを通過させることにより、前記加圧流体を前記患者の鼻腔の表面へ送給するステップとを含む、脳の冷却方法。 - 前記冷却アセンブリが、更に、患者の第2の鼻孔を通じて前記患者の鼻腔に挿入するように成された第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーを備え、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーは、近位側端部と、遠位側端部と、前記近位側端部と前記遠位側端部との間で延びる第1および第2の管腔とを備え、前記第1の管腔は前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記遠位側端部に設けられた複数のポートと流体的に連通し、また、前記第2の管腔は前記複数のポートの遠位側において前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーに取り付けられているバルーンと流体的に連通し、そして、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1および第2の管腔が前記マニホールドと流体的に連通し、
前記方法が、更に、
前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーに設けられた前記バルーンと複数のポートとが前記鼻腔内に位置付けられるように、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーを前記患者の第2の鼻孔に挿入するステップと、
前記レザバーからの前記加圧流体を、前記マニホールドを通じて前記第5のチューブ状メンバーの前記第2の管腔内に注入することにより、前記第5の細長いチューブ状メンバーに設けられた前記バルーンを膨らませるステップと、
前記レザバーからの前記加圧流体を、前記マニホールドを通じて前記第5のチューブ状メンバーの前記第1の管腔内に注入し、更に前記第5のチューブ状メンバーに設けられた前記複数のポートを通過させることにより、前記加圧流体のスプレーを前記患者の鼻腔の前記表面へ送給するステップとを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。 - 更に、圧力解放バルブを作動させて前記バルーンを萎ませるステップを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーを挿入するステップが、更に、膨張時に前記バルーンが前記鼻腔後部と接触した状態となるように、前記バルーンを前記鼻腔後部に位置付けするステップを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーを挿入するステップが、更に、膨張時に前記バルーンが前記鼻腔を実質的に塞いだ状態となるように、前記バルーンを前記鼻咽頭の近位側に位置付けするステップを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーが、更に、前記近位側と遠位側との端部に開口を有する第3の管腔を備える、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記バルーンを膨らませるステップが、前記鼻腔後部にシールを形成すべく前記バルーンを膨らませるために、前記レザバーからの前記加圧流体を前記バルーンに注入するステップを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記マニホールドが前記第1の細長いチューブ状メンバーの前記第1の管腔と流体的に連通するチェックバルブを備え、前記患者の鼻腔の前記表面へ流体のスプレーを送給する前に、前記バルーンが充分に膨らむ、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記加圧流体が22℃未満の沸点を有する流体を含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記加圧流体が22℃未満の沸点を有する推進剤と37℃未満の沸点を有する冷却用流体とを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 37℃未満の沸点を有する前記流体がペルフルオロカーボンと、ハイドロフルオロカーボンと、フルオロカーボンとからなる前記グループから選択される冷媒を含む、請求項20に記載の方法。
