Abstract
【解決手段】本発明の一態様において、電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法は、コモン電圧を基準として画素電極に正のパルスと負のパルスを交互に印加するプレパルス動作と、本電気泳動表示装置に希望の画像を表示させるため画素電極に電圧を印加する書込み動作と、書込み動作の終了後に画素電極に印加している電圧を徐々に減少させる書込み終了動作とを含む。プレパルス動作により、帯電微粒子に往復運動をする様に力が加えられ、プレパルス動作前に凝集していた帯電微粒子は解きほぐされる。その結果、本電気泳動表示装置は、異なる色の帯電微粒子の凝集によって起こる表示コントラストの低下を防ぐことができる。また、書込み終了動作により、凝集している微粒子が互いに回り込み発生する色の変化の速度が低下する。このため、本電気泳動表示装置は、観察者にとって違和感のあるちらつきを覚えにくい表示ができる。

Claims (5)
- 第1の基板と、
前記第1の基板と一定間隔の間隙を形成して対峙する第2の基板と、
前記間隙に閉じた空間である画素空間を少なくとも1つ形成し、前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板と共に該画素空間の境界を構成する隔壁部と、
前記画素空間中の前記第1の基板上に形成されている第1の電極と、
前記画素空間中の前記第2の基板上に形成されている第2の電極と、
前記画素空間に封入されている分散材と、
前記分散材に懸濁され、正の電荷を有する正帯電微粒子と、
前記分散材に懸濁され、負の電荷を有する負帯電微粒子と、
前記第1の電極に信号電圧を印加する信号電圧印加部と、
前記第2の電極にコモン電圧を印加するコモン電圧印加部と、
を具備し、
前記信号電圧は、
当該電気泳動表示装置に画像を表示させるための書込み信号電圧と、
前記書込み信号電圧から当該電気泳動表示装置の表示状態を維持するための保持信号電圧へ段階的に電圧が変化する書込み後信号電圧と、
を含むことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記信号電圧は、
コモン電圧を基準として正電圧と負電圧が交互に複数回繰り返される書込み前信号電圧
を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記画素空間は複数形成され、
前記書込み前信号電圧は、複数の前記第1の電極に一斉に印加されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 閉じた空間である画素空間に封入されている分散材中の帯電粒子を電気泳動させて画像を表示する電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法であって、
当該電気泳動表示装置に画像を表示させるための書込み信号電圧を前記電極に印加して、
前記書込み信号電圧から前記電気泳動表示装置の表示状態を維持するための保持信号電圧へ段階的に電圧が変化する書込み後信号電圧を前記電極に印加することを含む
ことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記信号電圧は、
コモン電圧を基準として所定の正電圧と負電圧が交互に所定の回数繰り返される書込み前信号電圧を前記電極に印加することを含む
ことを特徴とする請求項4に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
