Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a multilayer capacitor. More specifically, the present invention relates to a multilayer capacitor having a structure in which a plurality of ceramic dielectric layers and a plurality of internal electrode layers are alternately stacked.
Conventionally, a via array type multilayer capacitor having a structure in which a plurality of ceramic layers and a plurality of internal electrode layers are alternately stacked is known and used for decoupling applications. Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) is frequently used for the ceramic layer of the via array type multilayer capacitor for decoupling because it can be increased in capacity. However, although barium titanate is excellent in dielectric properties, it has poor mechanical properties, so that high strength is required.
Although the said patent documents 1-4 are known with respect to the said problem, more excellent mechanical strength and another method are calculated | required.
In particular, in recent years, the usage environment of multilayer capacitors has become increasingly severe, and in particular, the amount of heat generated by the MPU has increased, and the MPU wiring board and the decoupling capacitor mounted thereon have a sudden temperature difference. Exposed to heating and rapid cooling. In addition, due to recent demands for low profile and narrow space, it is required to incorporate electronic components (capacitors, etc.) in the MPU wiring board. The built-in electronic components are resins that constitute the wiring board. A large stress due to a difference in thermal expansion with the material is placed in an environment in which it is constantly loaded. In addition, high-temperature solder reflow may be used for mounting each electronic component, and the number of processes may be used not only once but also for multiple solder reflow processes. It will be exposed to rapid heating and rapid cooling with a difference.

Therefore, there is a demand for a multilayer capacitor having high mechanical characteristics that can cope with an environment exposed to such severer thermal shock and stress in recent years while maintaining high dielectric characteristics.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide a multilayer capacitor having particularly high mechanical characteristics.

That is, the present invention is as follows.
(1) In a multilayer capacitor having one surface and a facing surface,
A plurality of dielectric layers formed between the one surface and the facing surface, a plurality of internal electrode layers stacked via the dielectric layers, and via electrodes electrically connecting the internal electrode layers And an external electrode layer electrically connected to the via electrode and disposed on the one surface and / or the opposite surface,

(3) The multilayer capacitor according to (1) or (2), wherein each of the surface layer portions has a thickness of 10 to 100 μm.

According to the multilayer capacitor of the present invention, since the surface layer portion contains metallic nickel, a surface layer portion having a remarkably high mechanical strength can be obtained, and the mechanical strength of the entire multilayer capacitor can be increased. Furthermore, the adhesiveness with the external electrode layer which has metallic nickel as a main component is improved by containing metallic nickel in a surface layer part. In addition, by containing metallic nickel in the surface layer portion, the thermal conductivity of the surface layer portion is increased, the effect of equalizing the temperature in the multilayer capacitor is obtained, and the residual thermal stress between the internal electrode layer and the via electrode Is mitigated, and the occurrence of cracks and chipping during thermal shock and handling is effectively suppressed.
When the metal nickel contained in the surface layer part is 3 to 30% by volume when each surface layer part is 100% by volume, excellent mechanical strength can be obtained while maintaining high insulation.
When the thickness of the surface layer portions is 10 to 100 μm, it is possible to obtain more excellent mechanical strength while maintaining higher insulation.

[1] Multilayer Capacitor Hereinafter, the multilayer capacitor manufactured in the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. For convenience, the same reference numerals are used before and after firing as the reference numerals of the respective parts.
The multilayer capacitor of the present invention is
In the multilayer capacitor having one side and the opposite side,
A plurality of dielectric layers formed between the one surface and the facing surface, a plurality of internal electrode layers stacked via the dielectric layers, and via electrodes electrically connecting the internal electrode layers And an external electrode layer electrically connected to the via electrode and disposed on the one surface and / or the opposite surface,
The internal electrode layer, the via electrode and the external electrode layer are mainly composed of metallic nickel,
The dielectric layer has barium titanate as a main component, and the dielectric layer constituting each surface layer portion on the one surface side and the opposite surface side contains metallic nickel.
The general shape of the “
As shown in FIG. 1, the “
These
The content of barium titanate contained in the dielectric layer is measured by quantitative analysis with a wavelength dispersive X-ray spectrometer (WDX) of an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), and is calculated in terms of oxide.
In addition to barium titanate, sintering aids and additives for barium titanate can be included. Examples of the sintering aid include silicon dioxide and silicate. Examples of the additive include calcium oxide, manganese dioxide, yttria (yttrium oxide), magnesium oxide, cobalt oxide, strontium oxide, and various rare earth oxides. Each of these sintering aids and additives may be contained alone or in combination of two or more. Especially, as an additive, 3 types combined use of calcium oxide, manganese dioxide, and yttria is preferable. Although content of a sintering aid and an additive is not specifically limited, Usually, it is 1-5 volume parts with respect to 100 volume parts of barium titanate.
Further, in the

In addition, the volume ratio of the metallic nickel contained in the surface layer part is the area of the metallic nickel phase in the visual field because the contrast of light and dark is different in the reflected electron image (BEI) of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) obtained from the surface layer part cross section. As a ratio (which can be regarded as a volume ratio).

Moreover, metallic nickel may be contained over the whole
That is, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the
Note that the absence of metallic nickel means neither intentional inclusion nor intentional inclusion of metallic nickel, and when this region is subjected to X-ray diffraction measurement, It means that no peak is confirmed.

The planar shape and thickness of the

The “
The form of the
Further, the
Furthermore, as illustrated in FIG. 6, the

Examples of the organic binder include celluloses such as alkyl cellulose (ethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, etc.) and nitrocellulose, acrylic resins such as acrylic ester resins (polymethyl methacrylate, etc.), butyral resins such as polyvinyl butyral, phenol resins, and Polyester resin (alkyd resin etc.) etc. are mentioned. Examples of the plasticizer include phthalic acid esters (such as diethyl phthalate). The plasticizer is preferably selected and used depending on the type of organic binder. Furthermore, as solvents, ketone solvents (acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, etc.), hydrocarbon solvents (cyclohexane, toluene, etc.), monohydric alcohols (terpineol, butyl carbitol, etc.), and polyhydric alcohols (ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, etc.) Etc. Only one type of organic binder, plasticizer and solvent may be used, or two or more types may be used in combination.
The content of each component such as nickel particles, ceramic powder, and organic component contained in the internal electrode paste is not particularly limited. By including an appropriate amount of nickel particles, ceramic powder, organic components, etc., it is excellent in printability at the time of forming the unfired laminate, and in the correlation with the via electrode paste and the external electrode paste, This is preferable because the adhesion and the like are improved and a problem due to the difference in shrinkage behavior during firing does not occur.
The unfired first
The method for forming the unfired

The external electrode layer paste is a paste that forms the unfired
The shape and dimensions of the unfired
Furthermore, the larger the dimension of the unfired

(8) Thermal shock test The multilayer capacitor having the external electrode layer obtained up to the above (7) is sandwiched with tweezers, immersed in a molten solder bath without preheating, and taken out after 2 seconds to cause thermal shock. added. In this thermal shock, the bath temperature was set so that the temperature difference (thermal shock temperature difference) was 250 ° C., 270 ° C., and 300 ° C., and was imposed on 10 multilayer capacitors at each temperature.
Thereafter, the multilayer capacitor was cut in the thickness direction (direction in which the multilayer cross section can be visually observed), the cut surface was polished, and the polished surface was observed with an optical microscope to confirm the presence or absence of the following delamination and the presence or absence of the following cracks.
The delamination between the layers is a delamination between the inner electrode layer adjacent to the surface layer portion and the surface layer portion that can be visually confirmed on a screen magnified 200 times with an optical microscope. The number of multilayer capacitors where one or more delaminations are recognized is converted and shown in Table 2 as a percentage of the total number of tests.
The crack is a crack confirmed in the surface layer portion that can be confirmed by a fluorescent flaw detection method. The number of multilayer capacitors in which one or more cracks were observed was converted and shown in Table 2 as a percentage of the total number of tests.
(9) Evaluation of resistance value between terminals A probe terminal of a high resistance meter (model “R8340A” manufactured by Advantest Corporation) is brought into contact with a terminal of a multilayer capacitor having an external electrode layer subjected to a thermal shock test, and a voltage of 20 V is applied. The resistance value between terminals was measured by applying for 2 seconds and shown in Table 2.
According to the results of Table 1, in the multilayer capacitor (Experimental Examples 2 to 7) in which the content of metallic nickel in the surface layer portion is 5 to 30% by volume, compared with the multilayer capacitor not containing metallic nickel (Experimental Example 1), A remarkable improvement in mechanical properties of 2 to 6.9 times is recognized, and an electrical resistivity higher by about 11 orders than a multilayer capacitor (Experimental Example 8) having a metal nickel content of 35% by volume and 68% or less. And a low thermal conductivity. Furthermore, it turns out that the baking shrinkage rate in 1300 degreeC is also restrained small in Experimental Examples 2-7.
Moreover, according to the result of Table 2, it turns out that the thermal shock resistance is remarkably improved by containing 5 volume% or more of metallic nickel in a surface layer part. That is, delamination was observed in Experimental Example 9 containing no metallic nickel, but none of the temperatures was observed in Experimental Examples 10 to 17 containing metallic nickel. Furthermore, by comparing the experimental example 16 with other experimental examples, it can be seen that the resistance value between terminals can be improved by about 4 orders of magnitude by setting the content of metallic nickel to 30% by volume or less. Moreover, the crack could be further remarkably reduced by setting the metal nickel content to 15 to 30% by volume.
Furthermore, when the metal nickel content is the same, the surface layer portion has a wide surface layer by making the metal nickel intensively contained only in a part of the thickness direction excluding both surface portions of the surface layer portion. It can be seen from the comparison between the experimental example 13 and the experimental example 17 that superior insulating properties can be obtained as compared with the embodiment in which the dispersion is contained in the range.
In addition, in this invention, it can restrict to what is shown to said specific Example, It can be set as the Example variously changed within the range of this invention according to the objective and the use.
That is, for example, as other compounding examples of metallic nickel in the surface layer portion, (1) 10% by volume of the first layer, 10% by volume of the second layer, 10% by volume of the third layer, 0% by volume of the fourth layer, The entire surface layer portion may contain 7.5% by volume of metallic nickel, or (2) 10% by volume of the first layer, 10% by volume of the second layer, 0% by volume of the third layer, and 0% by volume of the fourth layer. In addition, the entire surface layer portion can be configured to contain 5% by volume of metallic nickel.
Further, although not included in the present invention, the metallic nickel contained in the surface layer portion in the present invention can be functionally substituted with metallic cobalt. However, metallic cobalt is more expensive than metallic nickel and is difficult to substitute in terms of cost.
