本発明は、亜鉛塩、二酸化炭素及び/又は炭酸塩、並びに、グリコール類、グリセリン及びポリグリセリンからなる群より選択される少なくとも一種を混合して、主に炭酸亜鉛及び/又は塩基性炭酸亜鉛からなる析出物を沈殿析出させる工程(1)、及び、上記工程(1)によって得られた析出物を焼成する工程(2)を有することを特徴とする酸化亜鉛の製造方法である。
上記ポリグリセリンは、2〜8量体であることが好ましい。
上記グリコール類、グリセリン及びポリグリセリンからなる群より選択される少なくとも一種の添加量は、亜鉛塩として配合される亜鉛100質量部に対して3〜60質量部であることが好ましい。
上記酸化亜鉛の製造方法において、得られる酸化亜鉛は、0.025質量%のヘキサメタリン酸ナトリウム水溶液に超音波ホモジナイザーで分散させた際の50%積算径が0.3μm以下であり、かつ同条件で測定した90%積算径が0.8μm以下であることが好ましい。
上記酸化亜鉛の製造方法は、さらに、表面処理を行う工程(3)を有することが好ましい。
上記表面処理を行う工程(3)は、オルガノポリシロキサンによる表面処理を行う工程であることが好ましい。
