Abstract
【課題手段】位相差板を内蔵した半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、位相差板を配向させるための下地層を形成するステップと、下地層に光硬化性の位相差板の材料を塗布するステップと、位相差板の材料の反射表示部に相当する部分をマスク露光により選択的に硬化させる第1の露光ステップと、位相差板の材料を加熱しながら全面を露光し硬化させる第2の露光ステップとを有する。位相差板の材料を硬化させる際に照射する光の波長は、所定の波長(例えば、300nm)以上であるのが好ましい。また、位相差板の材料の重合開始剤として、所定の波長以上の光を吸収して重合を開始するものを用いるのが好ましい。

Description
位相差板を形成する材料としては、次に示すような、アクリレート付の液晶モノマーを用いることができる。
光板41,42の光軸とずれる(例えば、直交する)方位に設定されている。第一の配向膜33、第二の配向膜34は、液晶分子を斯様な方位に設定する。ここでいう光軸は、液晶分子や偏光板41、42が、これらを透過する光に対して、例えば高い屈折率を示す方位として記される。
通電極に比べて、これに入射する光を反射し易くするとよい。図示された共通配線23は、
これと共通電極29とが接するスルーホール27から、画素内に向けて延在する。従って、共通配線23の延伸部分は、画素電極28及び共通電極29の下側に配置されて、カラーフィルタ基板31から液晶層10、画素電極28、及び共通電極29を通過して当該延伸部分(その上面)に入射した光を、カラーフィルタ基板31に向けて反射する。このような領域が画素毎に形成されている構造が、半透過型(Transflective)の液晶表示装置の特徴である。

Claims (5)
- 位相差板を内蔵した半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記位相差板を配向させるための下地層を形成するステップと、
前記下地層に光硬化性の前記位相差板の材料を塗布するステップと、
前記位相差板の材料の反射表示部に相当する部分をマスク露光により選択的に硬化させる第1の露光ステップと、
前記位相差板の材料を加熱するとともに全面を露光し硬化させる第2の露光ステップとを有し、
前記位相差板の材料を硬化させる際に照射する光の波長は、所定の波長以上であり、
前記位相差板の材料の重合開始剤として、前記所定の波長以上の光を吸収して重合を開始するものを用いる
ことを特徴とする半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記第2の露光ステップは、
前記位相差板の材料をネマチック・等方相転移温度以上に加熱する
ことを特徴とする半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記位相差板の材料を硬化させる際に照射する光の波長は300nm以上であり、
前記光重合開始剤は、300nm以上の波長の光を吸収して重合を開始するものである
ことを特徴とする半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記光の照射は、短波長光を遮光するフィルタを用いて行う
ことを特徴とする半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 反射表示部と透過表示部とを備え、前記反射表示部に位相差板を内蔵した半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置であって、
前記位相差板は、前記反射表示部及び前記透過表示部に渡り形成された樹脂層の位相差性を保持して硬化した部分であり、
前記樹脂層の透過率は、可視光領域にて90%以上である
ことを特徴とする半透過型IPS方式の液晶表示装置。
