Abstract
【課題】VIPA板の透過波長を容易かつ高速に可変できるようにする。
【解決手段】相対する平行な2つの反射面を有し、1次元方向に集光した光が前記各反射面の間に入射され、該入射光が各反射面で多重反射されながらその一部が一方の反射面を透過して出射され、該出射光が干渉することにより波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束が形成される光部品110と、該入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、該入射光が集光される前記1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、前記光部品の姿勢を回転変位させる回転機構2と、をそなえる。

Description
本発明は、分光装置および波長分散制御装置に関する。
従来の波長分散制御装置の一つとして、波長多重(Wavelength Division Multiplexing:WDM)光を波長に応じて空間的に区別可能な複数の光束に分光(分波)する、いわゆるバーチャリ・イメージド・フェイズド・アレイ(Virtually Imaged Phased Array:VIPA)を利用して構成したものが提案されている(例えば、下記の特許文献1参照)。
図10は、従来のVIPA型波長分散制御装置の構成例を示す模式的斜視図であり、図11は、図10に示すVIPA型波長分散制御装置の上面図である。図10および図11に示すように、従来のVIPA型波長分散制御装置100では、例えば、光サーキュレータ120を介して光ファイバ130の一端から出射された光が、コリメートレンズ140で平行光に変換された後に、ライン焦点レンズ150によって一つの線分の上に集光され、VIPA板110の照射窓116を通って対向する平行平面の間に入射される。
図10は、従来のVIPA型波長分散制御装置の構成例を示す模式的斜視図であり、図11は、図10に示すVIPA型波長分散制御装置の上面図である。図10および図11に示すように、従来のVIPA型波長分散制御装置100では、例えば、光サーキュレータ120を介して光ファイバ130の一端から出射された光が、コリメートレンズ140で平行光に変換された後に、ライン焦点レンズ150によって一つの線分の上に集光され、VIPA板110の照射窓116を通って対向する平行平面の間に入射される。
図10に示すVIPA板110は、照射窓116をそなえるとともに、照射窓116の同一面における図中上側領域に略100%の反射率を有する反射膜114が形成されるとともに、反射膜114の対向面には、100%よりも低い(例えば95%程度の)反射率を有する、反射膜114と平行な反射膜112が形成される。
このVIPA板110においては、多重反射共振により、照射窓116を通って入射された光について、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の光束を作る。即ち、VIPA板110への入射光は、例えば、VIPA板110の一方の平面に形成された100%よりも低い反射率を有する反射膜112と、他方の平面に形成された略100%の反射率を有する反射膜114との間で多重反射を繰り返す。
このVIPA板110においては、多重反射共振により、照射窓116を通って入射された光について、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の光束を作る。即ち、VIPA板110への入射光は、例えば、VIPA板110の一方の平面に形成された100%よりも低い反射率を有する反射膜112と、他方の平面に形成された略100%の反射率を有する反射膜114との間で多重反射を繰り返す。
その際、反射膜112の面で反射するごとに数%の光が当該反射面を透過してVIPA板110の外に出射される。そして、VIPA板110を透過した光は、相互に干渉し、図12の矢印A1〜A3に示すような方向に、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の(線状の)光束を作る。その結果、各光束を収束レンズ160で一点に集光すると、各々の集光位置は波長の変化に伴って図中Y軸に沿った直線上を移動するようになる。
そして、この直線上に例えば図10に示すような3次元ミラー170を配置することにより、VIPA板110から出射され収束レンズ160で集光された光は、各々の波長に応じて3次元ミラー170上の異なる位置で反射されてVIPA板110に戻される。3次元ミラー170で反射された光は波長によって異なる方向に進行し、VIPA板110に戻される際に光路がずれる。この光路ずれ量を波長によって変えることにより異なる波長成分は異なる距離を伝送することになって、入力光の波長分散制御を行なうことができるようになる。
上述のVIPA板110は、この光路ずれ量を波長によって変えることができるようになっている。このため、光ファイバ130の一端から出射される光である入力光が有する波長成分に関し、異なる波長成分は異なる距離を伝搬させたものを、光ファイバ130に入射される出力光とすることができる。これにより、VIPA型波長分散制御装置100は、入力光についての波長分散を制御して、出力光として光アイソレータ120を通じて出力することができる。
このような構成を有するVIPA型波長分散制御装置100は、光通信システムに適用することにより、伝送路を通じて伝送されてきた信号光の品質を劣化させる要因となる波長分散を補償して、信号光の受信感度を向上させることができるようになる。
図12は、上述のVIPA板110に入射された光が出射されると多重反射を受けることを説明するための図である。上述のごときVIPA板110で多重反射される光の振る舞いは、前述の図12に示すようなモデルを考えると、階段状の回折格子として周知のエシュロン格子(Echelon grating)と同様の振る舞いをする。このため、VIPA板110は仮想的な回折格子として考えることができる。VIPA板110による回折格子としての振る舞いについて説明すると、以下のとおりとなる。
図12は、上述のVIPA板110に入射された光が出射されると多重反射を受けることを説明するための図である。上述のごときVIPA板110で多重反射される光の振る舞いは、前述の図12に示すようなモデルを考えると、階段状の回折格子として周知のエシュロン格子(Echelon grating)と同様の振る舞いをする。このため、VIPA板110は仮想的な回折格子として考えることができる。VIPA板110による回折格子としての振る舞いについて説明すると、以下のとおりとなる。
すなわち、VIPA板110の照射窓116に入射された光の光軸117は、VIPA板110の照射窓116をなす面に対して傾斜角度θを持つ。そして、照射窓116からの光が100%よりも低い反射率を有する反射膜112に入射されると、一部の光は透過するとともに、ビームウェストの後ろは広がり、残りは略100%の反射率を有する反射膜114に向かって反射される。
また、最初に反射膜114によって反射された後、光は再び反射膜112に入射されるが、その光軸は最初に反射膜112に入射された光からdだけずれる。その後、反射膜112に再入射された光のうちの一部が反射膜112を通過する。同様にして、一定の間隔dで、光は多くのパスに分かれる。そして、各々のパスのビーム形は、ビームウェストの虚像118から光が広がるようになる。虚像118は、VIPA板110に対して法線である直線L上にそって、一定の間隔2tで仮想的に配置される。ここで、tはVIPA板110の厚さである。
また、上述のごとく配列される各々の虚像118から広がる光は、互いに干渉して、照射窓116に入力される光の波長に従って異なる方向に伝搬する、図12の矢印A1〜A3のような複数の光束A1〜A3を形成する。又、隣接する虚像118間での光パスの間隔はd=2tcosθであり、隣接したビームとのパス長の差は2tcosθである。そして、角分散はこれら2つの数の比に比例し、cotθである。このように、VIPA板110は、他のデバイスに比べても大きな角分散を生成するため、高精度な分光性能を実現できることが知られている。

上述の図12に示すVIPA板110や特許文献1に記載された技術においては、上述したような多重反射共振の機能を有しており、図14に示すように、出力波長の強度は周波数軸上において周期的な特性を有することになる。即ち、前述の図12に示すA1〜A3に示すような波長毎に異なる方向への光束の分布が、図14に示す周期的なピーク波形ごとに得られるようになる。
このため、利用者が使用を欲する波長が出力波長特性上ディップDに相当する波長領域となってしまう場合があり、当該波長領域においては、分光装置、ましてや波長分散制御装置として利用することが困難となるという課題がある。
図13に示すように、隣接する虚像118から直線Lに対して角度αを有する方向で伝搬する光が干渉により強めあう波長λは、式(1)のように表すことができる。尚、式(1)中において、nはVIPA板110の屈折率であり、mは整数である。

したがって、上述のVIPA板の厚みであるtを可変することで、FSRを可変させて、透過波長範囲を可変することも考えられる。例えば、VIPA板110の温度を可変することにより、VIPA板110の厚みを熱膨張により変化させ、透過波長範囲を可変することも検討されている。

したがって、上述のVIPA板の厚みであるtを可変することで、FSRを可変させて、透過波長範囲を可変することも考えられる。例えば、VIPA板110の温度を可変することにより、VIPA板110の厚みを熱膨張により変化させ、透過波長範囲を可変することも検討されている。
しかしながら、温度制御がVIPA板110にむらなく均一に及ばせることが技術的に高度であり、式(1)におけるtを可変することにより透過波長特性を得ることは難しく、又VIPA板110の熱伝導特性を考えても、温度制御については比較的高速に応答させることは困難であるため、透過波長の可変制御についての応答速度を速めることは困難である。
本発明は、このような課題に鑑み創案されたもので、VIPA板の透過波長を容易かつ高速に可変できるようにすることを目的とする。
このため、本発明の分光装置は、相対する平行な2つの反射面を有し、1次元方向に集光した光が前記各反射面の間に入射され、該入射光が各反射面で多重反射されながらその一部が一方の反射面を透過して出射され、該出射光が干渉することにより波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束が形成される光部品と、該入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、該入射光が集光される前記1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、前記光部品の姿勢を回転変位させる回転機構と、をそなえて構成されたことを特徴としている。
この場合においては、該回転機構における前記光部品の姿勢の回転変位により、該光部品の透過する波長範囲を変位させることができる。
また、前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることができるほか、前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる位置からオフセットされた回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることとしてもよい。
また、前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることができるほか、前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる位置からオフセットされた回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることとしてもよい。
また、上述の分光装置としては、入力される光ビームを平行光とするコリメートレンズと、該コリメートレンズからの平行光を1つの線分上に集光させ、前記集光した光を、前記1次元方向に集光した光として前記光部品の各反射面の間に導くライン焦点レンズと、をそなえることもできる。
さらに、前記光部品を、バーチャリ・イメージド・フェイズド・アレイにより構成することとしてもよい。

また、本発明の波長分散制御装置は、相対する平行な2つの反射面を有し、1次元方向に集光した光が前記素子の各反射面の間に入射され、該入射光が各反射面で多重反射されながらその一部が一方の反射面を透過して出射され、該出射光が干渉することにより波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束が形成される光部品と、該光部品の一方の反射面から異なる方向に出射される各波長の光束を反射して前記光部品に戻す反射器と、前記素子をなす2つの反射面に実質的に平行な軸であって、前記素子に入射される光が集光される前記1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、前記素子の姿勢を回転変位しうる回転機構と、をそなえて構成されたことを特徴としている。
この場合においては、該光部品が、前記素子とともに、前記波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束について前記波長ごとに異なる一点に収束させる収束レンズをそなえ、かつ、該反射器が、反射面形状が3次元形状を有するとともに、該収束レンズからの前記波長に応じて異なる一点に収束された光を反射させ、前記反射した光について前記波長に応じて異なる光路長を与えるように構成することができる。
このように、本発明によれば、回転機構により、入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、入射光が集光される1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、光部品の姿勢を回転変位させることができるので、光部品を温度制御することにより厚みを可変させる手法に比べて、透過波長特性を容易にシフトさせることができるほか、透過波長を可変する応答特性を速めることもできる利点がある。
以下、図面を参照することにより、本発明の実施の形態について説明する。
なお、上述の本願発明の目的のほか、他の技術的課題,その技術的課題を解決する手段及び作用効果についても、以下の実施の形態による開示によって明らかとなる。
〔A〕本発明の一実施形態の説明
図1は本発明の一実施形態にかかる波長分散制御装置1を示す模式的斜視図である。この図1に示す波長分散制御装置1は、前述の図10におけるもの(符号100参照)に、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させる回転機構2を追加して、VIPA板110の透過波長特性を可変できるようにしたものである。尚、図1中、図10と同一の符号はほぼ同様の部分を示している。
なお、上述の本願発明の目的のほか、他の技術的課題,その技術的課題を解決する手段及び作用効果についても、以下の実施の形態による開示によって明らかとなる。
〔A〕本発明の一実施形態の説明
図1は本発明の一実施形態にかかる波長分散制御装置1を示す模式的斜視図である。この図1に示す波長分散制御装置1は、前述の図10におけるもの(符号100参照)に、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させる回転機構2を追加して、VIPA板110の透過波長特性を可変できるようにしたものである。尚、図1中、図10と同一の符号はほぼ同様の部分を示している。
すなわち、コリメートレンズ140は、光ファイバ130から入力される光ビームを平行光とするもので、ライン焦点レンズ150は、コリメートレンズ140からの平行光を1つの線分上に集光させ、集光した光を、1次元方向に集光した光としてVIPA板110の各反射面112,114の間に導くようになっている。

さらに、回転機構2は、入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、各反射面112,114の間に入射される光が集光される1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸Aについて、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させるものであり、VIPA板110を固定しているフォルダに設けられたマイクロモータ等により構成することができる。
図2(a),図2(b)は、回転機構2によるVIPA板110の回転態様について説明するための模式図であり、図2(a)は正視図、図2(b)は上視図である。この図2に示すように、VIPA板110に入射される光の光軸に平行にz軸を置き、ライン焦点レンズ150により集光される線分に平行にx軸を置くこととすると、回転機構2は、これらのx軸およびz軸に垂直なy軸方向に平行な軸Aについて(図2中においてはy軸について)、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させることができるようになっている。尚、図2(a)に示すように、VIPA板110はx軸(光軸)について角度θだけ傾斜させている。
図2(a),図2(b)は、回転機構2によるVIPA板110の回転態様について説明するための模式図であり、図2(a)は正視図、図2(b)は上視図である。この図2に示すように、VIPA板110に入射される光の光軸に平行にz軸を置き、ライン焦点レンズ150により集光される線分に平行にx軸を置くこととすると、回転機構2は、これらのx軸およびz軸に垂直なy軸方向に平行な軸Aについて(図2中においてはy軸について)、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させることができるようになっている。尚、図2(a)に示すように、VIPA板110はx軸(光軸)について角度θだけ傾斜させている。
前述したように、VIPA板110のFSR(Free Spectral Range)は、式(2)に示すようになるので、上述のVIPA板の厚みであるtを可変することで、FSRを可変させて、透過波長範囲を可変させることができるようになる。
本実施形態のように、VIPA板110を回転機構2で軸Aについて回転させると、z軸方向からの見かけ上のVIPA版110の厚みは、回転させない状態に比べて変化しているように見える。

たとえば、図2(b)のC1に示すように、VIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転させない基準の状態(即ち角度β=0度;VIPA板110の照射窓116をx軸に平行としている状態)としている場合においては、図3(a)に示すように、z軸方向からの見かけ上のVIPA板110の厚みはd1である。これに対し、図2(b)のC2に示すように、VIPA板110を軸Aについて角度βをβ>0の鋭角となるように回転させた場合には、図3(b)に示すように、z軸方向からの見かけ上のVIPA板110の厚みd2はd2=d1/cosβとなる。cosβ<1であるため、見かけ上の厚みd2をd1よりも大きくすることができるようになる。図2(b)のC3に示すように、C2の場合とは反対側方向に回転変位させた場合にも、VIPA板110の見かけ上の厚みはC2の場合と同様に変化する。
このz軸方向からの見かけ上の厚みの変化は、VIPA板110に入射されて2つの反射膜112,114で多重反射される光についても同様に感ずるようになる。即ち、図2(b)の基準の状態C1においては、図3(a)に示すように、2つの反射膜112,114の間で多重反射される光の光路はx軸上で変位することなく、このときは見かけ上のVIPA板110の厚みはd1である。
これに対し、図2(b)に示すようなVIPA板110を回転変位させた状態C2(またはC3)の場合においては、例えば図3(b)に示すように、2つの反射膜112,114の間で多重反射される光の光路はx軸上で変位し、見かけ上の厚みd2はd2=d1/cosβとなる。
これにより、式(2)に示すFSRを求める際のパラメータである、VIPA板110において多重反射する光学長tが変化するため、式(2)の計算結果として得られるFSRの値も変化する。このため、VIPA板110の透過波長特性についても、例えば図4に示すように、B1からB2にシフトさせることができるようになっている。

換言すれば、上述のVIPA板110および回転機構2により、透過波長特性を可変することができる分光装置を構成することができる。尚、図5は、上述の回転機構2による、VIPA板110のA軸についての回転角度βをβ=0とした場合に出力光波長λaが強めあう場合において、回転角度βと、強めあう波長のλaから短波長側への波長変動量Δλと、の関係を示す図である。この図5に示すように、VIPA板110の回転角度を増やすに従って波長変動量Δλが増大することが観測できる。
すなわち、このように構成された分光装置においては、入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって入射光が集光される1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、回転機構2によりVIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させることにより、透過波長特性を容易にシフトさせることができる。そして、回転変位させる角度量と透過波長特性とを対応付けておくことにより、分光装置としての透過波長特性を所期の特性に設定することができる。更に、VIPA板110を温度制御することにより厚みを可変させる手法に比べて、透過波長を可変する応答特性を速めることもできる。
本実施形態にかかる波長分散制御装置1は、上述のごとく構成されているので、光アイソレータ120および光ファイバ130を通じて光が入力されると、この入力光に含まれる波長成分ごとに分散量を制御することができる。分散量が制御された光は、出力光として光ファイバ130および光アイソレータ120を通じて出力することができる。
すなわち、光ファイバ130の一端から出射された光が、コリメートレンズ140で平行光に変換された後に、ライン焦点レンズ150によって一つの線分の上に集光され、VIPA板110の照射窓116を通って対向する平行平面の間に入射される。そして、VIPA板110においては、多重反射共振により、照射窓116を通って入射された光について、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の光束を作る。
すなわち、光ファイバ130の一端から出射された光が、コリメートレンズ140で平行光に変換された後に、ライン焦点レンズ150によって一つの線分の上に集光され、VIPA板110の照射窓116を通って対向する平行平面の間に入射される。そして、VIPA板110においては、多重反射共振により、照射窓116を通って入射された光について、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の光束を作る。
その結果、各光束を収束レンズ160で一点に集光すると、各々の集光位置は波長の変化に伴って図中Y軸に沿った直線上に分布させることができる。そして、この直線上に配置された3次元ミラー170を配置することにより、VIPA板110から出射され収束レンズ160で集光された光は、各々の波長に応じて3次元ミラー170上の異なる位置で反射されてVIPA板110に戻される。
すなわち、3次元ミラー170は、光部品であるVIPA板110の一方の反射面をなす反射膜112から異なる方向に出射される各波長の光束を反射してVIPA板110に戻す反射器である。
また、3次元ミラー170で反射された光についてはVIPA板110において、波長によって異なる光路長を有する光路を伝搬させることができる。即ち、3次元ミラー170は、反射面形状が3次元形状を有するとともに、収束レンズ160からの波長に応じて異なる一点に収束された光を反射させ、反射した光について波長に応じて異なる光路長を与えるように構成することができる。
また、3次元ミラー170で反射された光についてはVIPA板110において、波長によって異なる光路長を有する光路を伝搬させることができる。即ち、3次元ミラー170は、反射面形状が3次元形状を有するとともに、収束レンズ160からの波長に応じて異なる一点に収束された光を反射させ、反射した光について波長に応じて異なる光路長を与えるように構成することができる。
したがって、この3次元ミラー170によりVIPA板110に戻す反射光路を波長毎に設定することにより、入力光の波長分散制御を行なうことができる。このような波長分散制御がなされた光は、ライン焦点レンズ150およびコリメートレンズ140を介して光ファイバ130に戻されて、光アイソレータ120を通じて出力される。
このとき、回転機構2においては、VIPA板110による透過波長特性を所期の特性に設定するために、入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって入射光が集光される1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、回転機構2によりVIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させることができる。

これにより、例えばVIPA板110の姿勢を前述の基準位置としている場合には出力波長特性上ディップDに相当していた波長範囲についても、回転機構2によるVIPA板110の回転変位により透過波長領域内に収めることができるようになるので、温度制御による場合よりも応答特性を速めかつ容易な手法で、少なくとも分光装置としての透過波長特性を可変させることができ、ひいては波長分散制御を行なうことができる波長領域を拡大させることができる。
ところで、前述したように、VIPA板110においては、多重反射共振により、照射窓116を通って入射された光が反射膜112を通じて出射されて、収束レンズ160に入射される際には、波長に応じて進行方向が異なる複数の線状の光束が形成されるようになっている。
このとき、図2(b)のC1に示すように、VIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転させない基準の状態としている場合においては、図6(a)に示すように、収束レンズ160に入射される複数の線状の光束LBは、縦方向[図2(a),図2(b)ではY軸方向]に各々の両端がほぼ揃うようになっている。
このとき、図2(b)のC1に示すように、VIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転させない基準の状態としている場合においては、図6(a)に示すように、収束レンズ160に入射される複数の線状の光束LBは、縦方向[図2(a),図2(b)ではY軸方向]に各々の両端がほぼ揃うようになっている。
しかしながら、回転機構2によりVIPA板110を回転させると、前述の図3(b)に示すように、2つの反射膜112,114の間で多重反射される段数が増えるに従い、光の光路はx軸上で変位するので、図6(b)に示すように、収束レンズ160に入射される複数の線状の光束LB′についても、縦方向[図2(a),図2(b)ではY軸方向]に各々の両端がそろわず、収束レンズ160における上部側の光束、即ち光束の波長が短波長のものとなるに従って、x軸上にずれてゆく。
なお、回転機構2による回転角度βを大きくしていくと、この光束のずれも大きくなってゆき、干渉により波長ごとに異なる光束が形成される限界に到達する。従って、回転機構2としては、この限界となる角度よりも小さい範囲内において回転変位させることで、透過波長特性を可変させることができる。
また、回転機構2によりVIPA板110を回転させた状態の場合[図2(b)のC2,C3参照]と、回転させない基準状態の場合[図2(b)のC1参照]とでは、3次元ミラー170からの反射光がVIPA板110の照射窓116を通じて出射される成分が以下のように変動する。

図7(a),図7(b)は、図2(b)のC1に示すように、VIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転させない基準の状態としている場合において、3次元ミラー170での反射によって波長分散制御された光のうちで照射窓116から出力される光の成分について説明するための図である。VIPA板110の姿勢が上述の基準の状態である場合には、図7(a)に示すように、縦方向に各々の両端がほぼ揃った複数の線状の光束LBが収束レンズ160を通過し、3次元ミラー170で反射される。すると、反射光として収束レンズ160を通過した光は、図7(b)に示すような光束LBrとなる。
このとき、反射光である光束LBrの像と反射前の光束LBの像とが重なる部分の光が、光学的に結合されて、VIPA板110の照射窓116を通じて波長分散制御がなされた光として出力することができるようになっている。
この場合においては、反射光である光束LBrの像は、反射前の光束LBの像に比べて全体的にわずかに横にずれているが、反射光である光束LBrの像と反射前の光束LBの像とが重なる部分は、図7(a),図7(b)に示す領域A1のようになるので、これらの光束LB,LBr間においては像が重なる領域A1を比較的大きく確保することができる。
この場合においては、反射光である光束LBrの像は、反射前の光束LBの像に比べて全体的にわずかに横にずれているが、反射光である光束LBrの像と反射前の光束LBの像とが重なる部分は、図7(a),図7(b)に示す領域A1のようになるので、これらの光束LB,LBr間においては像が重なる領域A1を比較的大きく確保することができる。
一方、図8(a),図8(b)は、図2(b)のC2またはC3に示すように、VIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転させた状態としている場合において、3次元ミラー170での反射によって波長分散制御された光のうちで照射窓116から出力される光の成分について説明するための図である。VIPA板110の姿勢を上述のごとく回転させている場合には、図8(a)に示すように、(波長毎に)横ずれした複数の線状の光束LB′が収束レンズ160を通過し、3次元ミラー170で反射される。すると、反射光として収束レンズ160を通過した光は、図8(b)に示すような光束LBr′となる。
この場合においても、反射光である光束LBr′の像は、反射前の光束LB′の像に比べて全体的にわずかに横にずれている。又、反射光である光束LBr′の像と反射前の光束LB′の像とが重なる部分は、図8(a),図8(b)に示す領域A2のようになり、図7(a),図7(b)の場合、即ちVIPA板110を基準状態としている場合よりも狭くなる。上述のVIPA板110の軸Aについての回転変位を大きくすると、このような像が重なる領域についても狭くなってゆく。
しかしながら、少なくとも上述の反射光である光束LBr′の像と反射前の光束LB′の像とが重なるような角度変位の範囲内であれば、波長分散制御された光を照射窓116を通じて出力することができるので、波長分散制御装置1としての機能を保つことが可能である。換言すれば、回転機構2によりVIPA板110の姿勢を軸Aについて回転変位させることができるので、波長分散制御される波長範囲を調整することが可能となる。
図9は波長分散制御装置1による波長分散制御が可能な波長帯域、即ちVIPA板110の透過波長帯域(1チャンネル内での透過波長帯域幅)と、3次元ミラー170による分散発生量との関係について説明するための図である。
VIPA板110から出射される中心波長帯の光(図12のA2参照)は、図9のE1に示すような強度分布を有しているが、3次元ミラー170で反射された光については、像反転してE2に示すような強度分布を有するようになる。このとき、VIPA板110からの出射光(E1)と反射光(E2)との重なり部分E3の成分がモード結合して、照射窓116を通じて出射されるようになっている。
VIPA板110から出射される中心波長帯の光(図12のA2参照)は、図9のE1に示すような強度分布を有しているが、3次元ミラー170で反射された光については、像反転してE2に示すような強度分布を有するようになる。このとき、VIPA板110からの出射光(E1)と反射光(E2)との重なり部分E3の成分がモード結合して、照射窓116を通じて出射されるようになっている。
このとき、3次元ミラー170の反射によって形成される光路長差によって得られる分散制御量が大きくなると、反射光の出射光に対するずれが大きくなるため、損失が大きくなる。この現象は、発生分散が大きくなると顕著に現れるようになって、透過波長帯域が狭くなってくる。
しかしながら、上述の図8(a),図8(b)に示すように、出射光の光束LB′および反射光の光束LBr′が重なるような角度変位の範囲内であれば、透過波長帯域が変動するような実質的な光路長差が生じることはない。従って、回転機構2によりVIPA板110を回転させたとしても、回転させない基準状態の場合と比べて、透過波長帯域の帯域幅自体には変動がない。
しかしながら、上述の図8(a),図8(b)に示すように、出射光の光束LB′および反射光の光束LBr′が重なるような角度変位の範囲内であれば、透過波長帯域が変動するような実質的な光路長差が生じることはない。従って、回転機構2によりVIPA板110を回転させたとしても、回転させない基準状態の場合と比べて、透過波長帯域の帯域幅自体には変動がない。
このように、本実施形態によれば、回転機構2により、入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、入射光が集光される1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸Aについて、VIPA板110の姿勢を回転変位させることができるので、VIPA板110を温度制御することにより厚みを可変させる手法に比べて、透過波長特性を容易にシフトさせることができるほか、透過波長を可変する応答特性を速めることもできる利点がある。
〔B〕その他
上述した実施形態にかかわらず、本発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲において種々変形して実施することが可能である。
たとえば、上述の本実施形態においては、VIPA板110の2つの反射膜112,114が、入射される光が集光される方向である1次元方向と平行となる回転変位、即ち図2(b)におけるVIPA板110の回転変位状態C1を、回転機構2において回転変位させるVIPA板110の姿勢の基準としているが、本発明によればこれに限定されず、2つの反射膜112,114が、入射される光が集光される方向である1次元方向と平行となる位置からオフセットされた回転変位[例えば図2(b)の回転変位状態C2,C3]を、回転機構2において回転変位させるVIPA板110の姿勢の基準とすることもできる。
上述した実施形態にかかわらず、本発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲において種々変形して実施することが可能である。
たとえば、上述の本実施形態においては、VIPA板110の2つの反射膜112,114が、入射される光が集光される方向である1次元方向と平行となる回転変位、即ち図2(b)におけるVIPA板110の回転変位状態C1を、回転機構2において回転変位させるVIPA板110の姿勢の基準としているが、本発明によればこれに限定されず、2つの反射膜112,114が、入射される光が集光される方向である1次元方向と平行となる位置からオフセットされた回転変位[例えば図2(b)の回転変位状態C2,C3]を、回転機構2において回転変位させるVIPA板110の姿勢の基準とすることもできる。
その他、上述した実施形態の開示により、当業者は本発明の装置を製造することは可能である。

Claims (8)
- 相対する平行な2つの反射面を有し、1次元方向に集光した光が前記各反射面の間に入射され、該入射光が各反射面で多重反射されながらその一部が一方の反射面を透過して出射され、該出射光が干渉することにより波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束が形成される分光機能をそなえた光部品と、
該入射光の光軸に実質的に垂直な軸であって、該入射光が集光される前記1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、前記光部品の姿勢を回転変位させる回転機構と、をそなえて構成されたことを特徴とする、分光装置。 - 該回転機構における前記光部品の姿勢の回転変位により、該光部品における分光機能によって透過する波長帯を変位させることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の分光装置。
- 前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることを特徴とする、請求項2記載の分光装置。
- 前記2つの反射面が、前記入射される光が集光される方向である前記1次元方向と平行となる位置からオフセットされた回転変位を、該回転機構において回転変位させる前記光部品の姿勢の基準とすることを特徴とする、請求項2記載の分光装置。
- 入力される光ビームを平行光とするコリメートレンズと、
該コリメートレンズからの平行光を1つの線分上に集光させ、前記集光した光を、前記1次元方向に集光した光として前記光部品の各反射面の間に導くライン焦点レンズと、をそなえたことを特徴とする、請求項1記載の分光装置。 - 前記光部品が、バーチャリ・イメージド・フェイズド・アレイにより構成されたことを特徴とする、請求項1記載の分光装置。
- 相対する平行な2つの反射面を有し、1次元方向に集光した光が前記素子の各反射面の間に入射され、該入射光が各反射面で多重反射されながらその一部が一方の反射面を透過して出射され、該出射光が干渉することにより波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束が形成される分光機能をそなえた光部品と、
該光部品の一方の反射面から異なる方向に出射される各波長の光束を反射して前記光部品に戻す反射器と、
前記素子をなす2つの反射面に実質的に平行な軸であって、前記素子に入射される光が集光される前記1次元方向に実質的に垂直な軸について、前記素子の姿勢を回転変位しうる回転機構と、をそなえて構成されたことを特徴とする、波長分散制御装置。 - 該光部品が、前記素子とともに、前記波長に応じて進行方向の異なる光束について前記波長ごとに異なる一点に収束させる収束レンズをそなえ、
かつ、該反射器が、反射面形状が3次元形状を有するとともに、該収束レンズからの前記波長に応じて異なる一点に収束された光を反射させ、前記反射した光について前記波長に応じて異なる光路長を与えるように構成されたことを特徴とする、請求項7記載の波長分散制御装置。
