Abstract
【解決手段】 本発明の酸化チタン粒子21cはアナターゼ結晶を70〜95重量%含み、そのBET比表面積が65〜120m2/gであり、更にJIS K5101に基づく方法で測定された吸油量が70〜90ml/100gである。光電変換素子10は、光透過性を有する基材11と、この基材11上に形成されかつ色素を吸着した多孔質膜21bとを備え、この色素を吸着した多孔質膜21bは上記酸化チタン粒子21cを含む。

また、上記従来の特許文献2に示された気相法による低塩素で低ルチル含有の酸化チタン超微粒子の製造方法では、除去した塩素の取扱いが難しい問題点もあった。
本発明の目的は、一次粒径が揃っており、また分散液中に分散させなくても凝集が発生せずかつ保存性に優れ、取扱いの難しい塩素が発生せず、更に酸性水溶液への分散性に優れている、酸化チタン粒子及びその製造方法を提供することにある。
本発明の別の目的は、短絡電流密度及び光電変換効率が高い、酸化チタン粒子を用いた光電変換素子及び色素増感太陽電池を提供することにある。
この請求項1に記載された酸化チタン粒子は、一次粒径が揃い、凝集が発生せず、更に酸性水溶液への分散性に優れている。
その特徴ある構成は、色素21dを吸着した多孔質膜21bが、アナターゼ結晶を70〜95重量%含み、BET比表面積が65〜120m2/gであり、更にJIS K5101に基づく方法で測定された吸油量が70〜90ml/100gである酸化チタン粒子21cを含むところにある。
この請求項2に記載された光電変換素子では、多孔質膜21bの単位体積当りの比表面積が増大するため、吸着色素量が増え、この光電変換素子10を用いた色素増感太陽電池80の短絡電流密度が高くなり、光電変換効率が高くなる。
その特徴ある構成は、上記火炎の理論燃焼温度を400〜700℃に設定するところにある。
この請求項4に記載された方法で酸化チタン粒子を製造すると、一次粒径が揃っており、凝集が発生せず、更に酸性水溶液への分散性に優れている、請求項1に記載された酸化チタン粒子を得ることができる。
この請求項5に記載された色素増感太陽電池では、多孔質膜21bの単位体積当りの比表面積が増大するため、吸着色素量が増え、短絡電流密度が高くなり、光電変換効率が高くなる。
また光電変換素子の光透過性を有する基材上に色素を吸着した多孔質膜を形成し、この色素を吸着した多孔質膜が上記酸化チタン粒子を含めば、多孔質膜の単位体積当りの比表面積が増大するため、吸着色素量が増え、この光電変換素子を用いた色素増感太陽電池の短絡電流密度が高くなり、光電変換効率が高くなる。
また水素を燃焼させた火炎中で四塩化チタンを火炎加水分解して酸化チタン粒子を製造するとき、水素の燃焼による火炎の理論燃焼温度を400〜700℃に設定すれば、上記一次粒径が揃って、分散液に分散させなくても凝集が発生せず、また取扱いの難しい塩素が発生せず、酸性水溶液への分散性に優れている純度99.5%以上の酸化チタン粒子を得ることができる。
更に上記光電変換素子を用いた色素増感太陽電池は、多孔質膜の単位体積当りの比表面積が増大するため、吸着色素量が増え、短絡電流密度が高くなり、光電変換効率が高くなる。
この実施の形態の酸化チタン粒子(チタニア(TiO2)粒子)はアナターゼ結晶を70〜95重量%、好ましくは75〜90重量%含み、そのBET比表面積が65〜120m2/g、好ましくは70〜100m2/gであり、更にJIS K5101に基づく方法で測定された吸油量が70〜90ml/100g、好ましくは70〜85ml/100gである。ここで酸化チタン粒子のBET比表面積を65〜120m2/gの範囲に限定したのは、65m2/g未満では酸化チタン粒子の粒径が大きくなる不具合があり、120m2/gを越えると酸化チタンの生産性が極端に低下するからである。更に酸化チタンの吸油量を70〜90ml/100gの範囲に限定したのは、70ml/100g未満では酸化チタンを分散した酸性水溶液を用いて調製したペースト(以下、酸性水系ペーストという)の粘度が低くなり過ぎ、90ml/100gを越えると酸性水系ペーストの粘度が高くなり過ぎるからである。
上記高純度の四塩化チタン液を加熱して気化させるとともに、この気化した四塩化チタンを水素及び空気と混合して原料混合ガスを調製する。更に水素を燃焼させた火炎中で、上記原料混合ガスを火炎加水分解して酸化チタン粒子を製造する。なお、上記火炎の理論燃焼温度を400〜700℃、好ましくは450〜600℃に設定する。ここで、上記火炎の理論燃焼温度を400〜700℃の範囲に設定したのは、400℃未満では酸化チタンの生産性が極端に低下し、700℃を越えると製造された酸化チタン粒子の粒径が大きくなる不具合があるからである。
図2に示すように、先ず四塩化チタンを蒸発器51で気化した後に混合器52に供給し、この気化された四塩化チタンを混合器52内で酸素(空気)と混合する。次にこの混合ガスはバーナ53に水素とともに供給されて燃焼される。即ち、四塩化チタンをバーナ53で火炎加水分解することにより、酸化チタン粒子(チタニア粒子)と副生成物(塩酸)が生成される。更にこの酸化チタン粒子及び副生成物を冷却ゾーン54で冷した後に、副生成物の塩酸を塩酸分離器56で除去する。脱塩された酸化チタン粒子は貯蔵サイロ57に貯えられる。なお、火炎加水分解の条件、例えば四塩化チタン、酸素(空気)、水素の供給量等を変えることにより、生成される酸化チタン粒子の粒径をコントロールできるようになっている。
先ず第1基材11の上に第1導電膜21aを形成する(図1)。次いでこの第1導電膜21aの上に酸性水系ペーストを塗布して乾燥する。この第1導電膜21aは、第1基材11の一方の面、両面或いは全面に、蒸着法、スパッタリング法、イオンプレーティング法、加水分解法等により形成する。第1基材11としては、光透過性を有するガラス板又は光透過性を有しかつ可撓性を有するプラスチックフィルムを用いることが好ましく、第1導電膜21aとしては、酸化錫にフッ素をドープした膜(FTO)や、酸化インジウムに少量の酸化錫を混合した膜(ITO膜)を用いることが好ましい。上記第1導電膜21aの表面抵抗率は5〜15Ω/□であることが好ましい。
このように製造された光電変換素子10では、単位体積当りの吸着色素量及び単位面積当りの吸着色素量が多いため、この光電変換素子10を用いた色素増感太陽電池80の短絡電流密度が高くなり、その結果として光電変換効率が高くなる。
第2基材12に第2導電膜22aを形成することにより対極22を作製する。第2導電膜22aは、蒸着法、スパッタリング法、イオンプレーティング法、加水分解法等により第2基材12の一方の面、両面或いは全面に形成される。第2基材12としては、ガラス板又は可撓性を有するプラスチックフィルムを用いることが好ましく、第2導電膜22aとしては、白金箔、酸化錫にフッ素をドープした膜(FTO)や、酸化インジウムに少量の酸化錫を混合した膜(ITO膜)等を用いることが好ましい。また第1基材11の作用電極21と第2基材12の対電極22とを所定の間隔をあけて対向させた状態で、作用電極21及び対電極22間に電解質溶液13を貯留する。電解質溶液13は、リチウムイオンなどの陽イオンや塩素イオンなどの陰イオンからなる支持電解質と、この支持電解質中に存在するヨウ素−ヨウ素化合物や臭素−臭素化合物などの酸化還元対と、アルコール系(エタノール、t-ブタノール、)又はニトリル系(アセトニトリル、メトキシアセトニトリル、3-メトキシプロピオニトリル)の単独溶媒又は混合溶媒とを混合して調製される。なお、第1基材11の作用電極21と第2基材12の対電極22との間隔を所定値に保つために、厚さ10〜30μmの樹脂フィルム製スペーサ(図示せず)を作用電極21及び対電極22間に介装する。また上記電解質溶液13の漏洩を防止するために、作用電極21及び対電極22間であって、これらの周縁にエポキシ樹脂などの電気絶縁性接着剤を塗布して硬化させる。これにより色素増感太陽電池80が作製される。
このように製造された色素増感太陽電池80では、単位体積当りの吸着色素量及び単位面積当りの吸着色素量が多いため、短絡電流密度が高くなり、その結果として光電変換効率が高くなる。
<実施例1>
四塩化チタンガスの流量が110kg/時となり、水素ガスの流量が30Nm3/時となり、空気の流量が600Nm3/時となるように、原料ガスを混合し、この原料混合ガスを図2の火炎加水分解装置のバーナ53に導入して、火炎加水分解を行い、酸化チタン粒子を作製した。この酸化チタン粒子を実施例1とした。なお、上記火炎加水分解における火炎の理論燃焼温度は510℃であった。
<実施例2>
四塩化チタンガスの流量が100kg/時となり、水素ガスの流量が27Nm3/時となり、空気の流量が660Nm3/時となるように、原料ガスを混合し、この原料混合ガスを実施例1で用いた火炎加水分解装置のバーナに導入して火炎加水分解を行い、酸化チタン粒子を作製した。この酸化チタン粒子を実施例2とした。なお、上記火炎加水分解における火炎の理論燃焼温度は450℃であった。
<比較例1>
四塩化チタンガスの流量が120kg/時となり、水素ガスの流量が33Nm3/時となり、空気の流量が500Nm3/時となるように、原料ガスを混合し、この原料混合ガスを実施例1で用いた火炎加水分解装置のバーナに導入して火炎加水分解を行い、酸化チタン粒子を作製した。この酸化チタン粒子を比較例1とした。なお、上記火炎加水分解における火炎の理論燃焼温度は720℃であった。
実施例1、実施例2及び比較例1の酸化チタン粒子に含まれるアナターゼ結晶の含有割合(重量%)と、酸化チタンのBET比表面積(m2/g)及び吸油量(ml/100g)を測定した。その結果を、四塩化チタンガス、水素ガス及び空気の各流量と、火炎の理論燃焼温度とともに、表1に示す。なお、酸化チタン粒子に含まれるアナターゼ結晶の含有割合は、粉末X線回折法により測定して求めた。また酸化チタンのBET比表面積は、酸化チタン粒子の表面に、占有面積が既知の気体分子(窒素分子)を吸着させて、この気体分子の吸着量を測定して求めた。更に吸油量は、JIS K5101に基づく方法で測定した。具体的には、吸油量A(ml/100g)は、2.00gの酸化チタン粒子をガラス板上に載せ、煮あまに油を少量ずつミクロビューレットからガラス板上に滴下し、規定の金属ヘラでよく混合し、油と酸化チタン粒子の混合物がパテ状となり成形性をもった時点で終点とし、このときのあまに油量V(ml)を測定した後に、次の式(1)を用いて算出した。

実施例2及び比較例1の酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体の粒度分布を測定した。この測定は、酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体を電子顕微鏡で撮影し、その写真から1つずつ数えて一次粒子の粒度分布を測定した。その結果を図3に示す。
図3から明らかなように、実施例2の酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体の粒度分布曲線は比較例1の酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体の粒度分布曲線よりシャープになっており、実施例2の酸化チタン粒子の方が比較例1の酸化チタン粒子より一次粒径が揃っていることが判った。
先ず実施例2の酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体2.1gを硝酸水(pH:0.7)4.9gと混合して酸化チタン粒子が分散した酸性水溶液を調製した。次いでこの酸化チタン粒子が分散した酸性水溶液に、アセチルアセトン0.21gと、ポリエチレングリコール(平均分子量:500,000)0.105gを混合して酸性水系ペーストを調製し、この酸性水系ペーストを第1導電膜21a付き第1基材11の第1導電膜21a上に、縦及び横がそれぞれ5mmの正方形状に塗布した。上記第1導電膜21a付き第1基材11は、ガラス板の一方の面に第1導電膜21a(酸化錫にフッ素をドープした膜)を蒸着した日本板硝子社製のものであり、第1導電膜21aの表面抵抗率は15Ω/□であった。次に上記酸性水系ペーストを塗布した第1導電膜21a付き第1基材11を電気炉に入れ、大気中で500℃に30分間保持して焼成し、第1導電膜21a上に酸化チタン粒子21cを含む多孔質膜21bを作製した。更に色素21dとしてRuthenium535-bisTBA(Solaronix社製)を用い、この色素21dをアセトニトリルとt-BuOHとの混合溶剤に溶解し、この色素溶液の濃度を5×10-4モルに調製した。この色素溶液に上記第1基材11を12時間浸漬して色素21dを多孔質膜21bに吸着させて定着させた。この色素21dを吸着した多孔質膜21b表面をアセトニトリルで洗浄して乾燥した。これにより第1基材11上に第1導電膜21a、多孔質膜21b及び色素21dからなる作用電極21を形成した光電変換素子10を作製した。
比較例1の酸化チタン粒子からなる粉体2.1gを硝酸水(pH:0.7)4.9gと混合して酸性水溶液を調製した後に、この酸化チタン粒子が分散した酸性水溶液に、アセチルアセトン0.21gと、ポリエチレングリコール(平均分子量:500,000)0.105gを混合して酸性水系ペーストを調製したことを除いて、実施例3と同様にして色素増感太陽電池を作製した。この色素増感太陽電池を比較例2とした。
<比較試験3及び評価>
実施例3及び比較例2の色素増感太陽電池に、300Wのソーラーシミュレータ(Oriel社製)を光源とし、照射光量が100mW/cm2[AM(エア・マス)1.5G]となるように光を照射しながら、ポテンショスタッド(北斗電工社製のHSV-100F)を使用してI−Vカーブ特性をそれぞれ測定した。その結果を図4に示す。
図4から明らかなように、比較例2の色素増感太陽電池では短絡電流密度が10.9mA/cm2と低かったのに対し、実施例3の色素増感太陽電池では短絡電流密度が12.2mA/cm2と高くなった。
また実施例3及び比較例2の色素増感太陽電池の光電変換効率η(%)をそれぞれ測定した。この光電変換効率η(%)は、上記I−Vカーブ特性測定から得られたVoc(開放電圧値:V)、Isc(短絡電流値:mA)、ff(フィルタファクタ値)、L(照射光量:mW/cm2)、S(多孔質膜の面積:cm2)を用いて次の式(1)を用いて算出した。
η=(Voc×Isc×ff×100)/(L×S) ……(1)
その結果、比較例2の光電変換効率は5.56%と低かったのに対し、実施例3の光電変換効率は6.21%と高くなった。

Claims (5)
- アナターゼ結晶を70〜95重量%含み、BET比表面積が65〜120m2/gであり、更にJIS K5101に基づく方法で測定された吸油量が70〜90ml/100gである酸化チタン粒子。
- 光透過性を有する基材(11)と、この基材(11)上に形成されかつ色素(21d)を吸着した多孔質膜(21b)とを備えた光電変換素子において、
前記色素(21d)を吸着した多孔質膜(21b)が、アナターゼ結晶を70〜95重量%含み、BET比表面積が65〜120m2/gであり、更にJIS K5101に基づく方法で測定された吸油量が70〜90ml/100gである酸化チタン粒子(21c)を含むことを特徴とする光電変換素子。 - 基材(11)がガラス板又は可撓性を有するプラスチックフィルムである請求項2記載の光電変換素子。
- 水素を燃焼させた火炎中で四塩化チタンを火炎加水分解して酸化チタン粒子を製造する方法において、
前記火炎の理論燃焼温度を400〜700℃に設定することを特徴とする酸化チタン粒子の製造方法。 - 請求項2又は3に記載の光電変換素子(10)を用いた色素増感太陽電池。
