Abstract
【課題】 圧電素子を使用して固体磁気スラグを変位させ、光経路を遮断するかまたは遮断を解除して、光信号のスイッチングを可能にする。
【解決手段】 本発明の一例では、固体スラグがチャネル内で移動して、チャネルを通る光経路を遮断するか、または遮断を解除する光スイッチに関する。固体スラグは例えば、圧電素子により移動される。実施態様の1つによると、スラグは例えば、液体金属などの液体により濡らされ、チャネル内の濡らすことが可能な金属接触パッドに付着して、ラッチ機構を形成する。固体スラグの移動は、損傷を防止するように減衰させることができる。

Description
本発明は、光スイッチリレー分野に関し、詳細には、液体の表面張力によりラッチする圧電作動光リレーに関する。
光信号を使用する通信システムは、光スイッチおよびルータの使用を必要とする。光スイッチに関する初期の取組みは、光信号を電気信号に変換し、電気スイッチまたはルータを使用し、次に光信号に逆返還することだった。より最近では、電気制御信号を使用して、光信号のスイッチングまたはルーティングを制御する光リレーが使用されていた。光リレーは、一般に、移動可能な固体ミラーを使用するか、または気泡の形成を使用してキャビティ内の屈折率を変更することにより光信号をスイッチする。移動可能なミラーは静電ラッチ機構を使用し、気泡スイッチはラッチしない。圧電ラッチリレーは、圧電材料中の残留電荷を使用してラッチするか、またはラッチ機構を含むスイッチ接点を作動させる。
液体金属も電気リレーに使用される。液体金属の小滴は、静電気力、熱膨張/収縮による可変幾何学的形状、および圧力勾配などの様々な技術により移動させることができる。当該寸法が収縮すると、液体金属の表面張力は、体積力(慣性)などのその他の力を支配するようになる。逆に、マイクロ電気機械(MEM)システムは、液体金属スイッチングを使用する。
本発明の一例では、固体スラグがチャネル内で移動して、チャネルを通る光経路を遮断するか、または遮断を解除する光スイッチに関する。固体スラグは例えば、圧電素子により移動される。実施態様の1つによると、スラグは例えば、液体金属などの液体により濡らされ、チャネル内の濡らすことが可能な金属接触パッドに付着して、ラッチ機構を形成する。固体スラグの移動は、損傷を防止するように減衰させることができる。
新規であると考えられる本発明の特徴は、特に添付の請求の範囲に記載する。しかし、本発明自体は、動作の構成および方法、並びに本発明の目的および利点の両方の点で、本発明の以下の詳細な説明を参照すると最も良く理解することができ、以下の詳細な説明は、添付の図面に関連して本発明の特定の例示的な実施態様を説明するものである。

本発明は、圧電作動光リレーであって、濡らすことが可能な磁気固体スラグおよび液体によりスイッチおよびラッチする光リレーに関する。
本発明の特定の実施態様によると、リレーは、圧電素子を使用して固体磁気スラグを変位させる。スラグは、光経路を遮断するかまたは遮断を解除して、光信号のスイッチングを可能にする。固体スラグは、液体、好ましくは水銀などの液体金属の表面張力により所定の位置に保持され、液体は、固体スラグと、リレー筐体上の少なくとも1個の固定接触パッドとの間を濡らす。磁界の存在で変形するTerfenol-Dなどの磁気抵抗アクチュエータは、圧電アクチュエータの代わりに使用することができる。結局、圧電アクチュエータおよび磁気抵抗アクチュエータは、「圧電アクチュエータ」と総称されるであろう。
一実施態様では、超微小機械加工技術を使用して、リレーを製造する。光リレー100の端面図を図1に示す。この実施態様では、リレー本体は、4つの層から構成され、超微小機械加工により製造することができる。最下層は、図9に関して以下に詳細に説明する回路基板108である。次の層は、スイッチング層106である。光信号のスイッチングは、この層に含まれるスイッチングチャネル内で行われる。次の層は、スイッチングチャネル内の圧力の変動を緩和するための圧力除去通気孔(バイア)を含む通気孔層104である。キャップ層102は、圧力除去通気孔を接続する圧力除去通路またはチャネルを提供する。動作時、光信号は、光ファイバまたは導波管110を通ってリレーに入り、リレー内で遮断されない場合、光ファイバまたは導波管112から出て行く。断面3−3を図3に示す。
図2は、図1に示す光リレーの側面図である。光ファイバ110および124は、それぞれスイッチング層106の整列ノッチ122および126内に配置される。各ファイバは、リレーの対向側部の対応するファイバと光学的整列される(図1に示す)。光ファイバは、接着剤により所定の位置に保持される。
図1に示すリレーの断面3−3を通る長手方向の垂直断面を図3に示す。スイッチングチャネル130は、スイッチング層106内に形成される。固体スラグ132は、スイッチングチャネル内に移動可能に配置される。圧力除去チャネル134は、通気孔135および136によりスイッチングチャネル130の両端に結合される。圧力除去チャネル134は、固体スラグ132の移動によるスイッチングチャネル内の圧力変動が、流体がスイッチングチャネルの一方の端部から通気孔を介して他方の端部に流れることを可能にすることにより均一化されることを可能にする。3個の接触パッド137、138および140は、スイッチングチャネル内の回路基板108に固定される。これらの接触パッドは、蒸着またはその他の長微細機械加工技術により回路基板108上に形成される。接触パッドは、液体金属などの液体により濡らすことができる。固体スラグ132を図3に示すように配置する場合、液体142は、固体スラグの表面、接触パッド137および138の表面を濡らす。表面張力は、固体スラグをこの位置に保持する。追加の液体144は、接触パッド140を濡らす。
圧電素子50および54は、スイッチング層106の基板に取り付けられる。圧電素子との電気接続(図示しない)は、回路基板108の上部に沿って通過してリレーの縁部に達するか、または回路基板内の孔またはバイアを通過して、リレー底部の接続パッドに接続する。
固体スラグが図3に示す位置にある場合、導波管110と112(図1)との間の光経路は開放し、導波管124(図2)を通る光経路はスラグおよび液体により遮断される。リレーのスイッチ状態を変更するには、圧電素子50は、素子を横断して電位を印加されることにより付勢される。その結果、圧電素子50は拡張して、固体スラグ132の端部に衝撃力を与える。圧電素子の運動は急速であるため、固体スラグの与えられた運動量は、固体スラグが作動圧電素子付近の1個または複数の接触パッドに接触した状態を保持する表面張力(液体の)を克服する。表面張力ラッチは遮断され、固体スラグは、図4に示すようにスイッチングチャネルの左端に移動する。次に、固体スラグ132は、接触パッド138および140と濡れた状態で接触し、新しい位置にラッチされる。この新しい位置では、導波管110と112(図1)との間の光経路はスラグおよび液体により遮断され、導波管124(図2)を通る光経路は開放する。
脆弱な圧電素子が、スイッチングスラグがスイッチング中に新しい位置に到達した時に破損するのを防止するために、エネルギー散逸素子を使用して衝撃力を減少させる。本発明の第1実施態様では、図3および図4に示すように、コンプライアントなエネルギー吸収面52および56を圧電素子50および54上に使用する。「ソルボセイン」(Sorbothane)などの材料は、衝撃および振動を吸収する上で効果的である。第2の実施態様では、エネルギー吸収面52および56は存在せず、スイッチングチャネルが圧電アクチュエータ付近で狭窄しているため、チャネル壁部と、圧電アクチュエータ面の静止位置と通気孔開口部との間のスラグとの間には殆ど隙間がない。スラグが到達すると、0液体金属は、スラグとアクチュエータの面との間に捕捉され、スラグを囲む開口部を通って圧搾され、減衰を提供する。様々な通路の構造を使用して、液体金属の流れおよび減衰をより良く制御することができる。図3を参照すると、アクチュエータ50はスラグ132を押して作動させ、アクチュエータの面はスラグを通気孔開口部136のレベルまで押し、スラグを押し戻す傾向があるアクチュエータの面とスラグ端部との間の真空を緩和する。第2実施態様の1つの利点は、スラグが分離する時に最小限の減衰があることである。
スイッチ状態は、圧電素子54を付勢して固体スラグを移動させることにより、図4に示すスイッチ状態から逆に、図3に示す元の状態に変化する。固体スラグは、その元の位置に戻ると、液体の表面張力により再び所定の位置にラッチされる。
図5は、固体スラグ、キャップ層102および通気層104を除去したリレーの上面図である。光導波管110、112、124、152は、スイッチング層106のノッチ122、154、126、156にそれぞれ接着される。導波管110は導波管112に光学的に整列され、光は、スイッチングチャネル130を通って導波管との間に結合される。同様に、導波管124は、導波管152に光学的に整列され、光は、導波管間に結合される。接触パッド140、137、138は、スイッチングチャネル130の底部に位置し、回路基板の上面に蒸着される。圧電アクチュエータ50および54は、スイッチングチャネル130内のスイッチング層106に取り付けられる。固体スラグは、接触パッド140と138との間の隙間を架橋し、導波管110と112との間の光経路が遮断される。固体スラグが接触パッド137と138との間の隙間を架橋すると、導波管124と152との間の光経路が遮断される。
図6は、図2に示す断面6−6を通る断面である。図6を参照すると、光導波管110および112は、スイッチング層106の接着剤充填ノッチ122および154内にそれぞれ配置される。導波管110は導波管112に光学的に整列され、光は、スイッチングチャネル130を通って導波管間に結合される。接触パッド140は、スイッチングチャネル130の底部に位置する。この実施態様では、圧力除去チャネル134は、キャップ層102内に形成される。あるいは、通気層104内に形成しても良い。
図7は、圧力除去チャネル134を示すキャップ層102の底面図である。
図8は、通気層104の上面図である。通気孔135および136はこの層を通り、通気通路を下の層のスイッチングチャネルおよび上のキャップ層の圧力除去チャネルに結合する。
図9は、回路基板108の上面図である。3個の接触パッド137、138、140は、基板の上部に形成される。接触パッドの表面は、スイッチングチャネル内の液体により濡らすことができる。接触パッドは、濡らすことが可能な金属から構成することが好ましい。例示的な実施態様では、圧電アクチュエータに接続することを可能にする電気回路構成は、回路基板上に形成される。
本発明の光リレーは、小さいサイズのための超微細機械加工技術を用いて製造することができる。スイッチング時間は短く、数kHz以上のスイッチングレートを生成する。唯一の熱生成系は、圧電素子、および導体を通って圧電素子に至る制御電流の通過であるから、熱の生成も少ない。
本発明は、特定の実施態様に関連して説明したが、多くの代案、変更、置換えおよび変形は、当業者が上記の説明を考慮すると明白である。したがって、本発明は、添付の請求の範囲に分類されるこうした代案、変更および変形のすべてを含むことを意図する。

Claims (10)
- スイッチングチャネルを備えるリレー筐体と、
前記スイッチングチャネルを通過する第1光経路と、
前記スイッチングチャネル内で移動するように構成された固体スラグと、
前記固体スラグに衝撃力を与えて、前記固体スラグを前記スイッチングチャネル内の第1位置に移動させ、第1光経路を遮断するように作動する第1圧電アクチュエータと、
前記固体スラグに衝撃力を与えて、前記固体スラグを前記スイッチングチャネル内の第2位置に移動させ、前記第1光経路の遮断を解除するように作動する第2圧電アクチュエータとを備える圧電光リレー。 - 圧力除去チャネルと、
前記スイッチングチャネルの両端を前記圧力除去チャネルに接続し、前記固体スラグが移動する時に前記スイッチングチャネル内の圧力を緩和するように構成された第1および第2圧力除去通気孔とをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の圧電光リレー。 - 前記スイッチングチャネルが、前記第1および第2圧力除去通気孔の付近で狭められ、前記固体スラグの運動を減衰させる、請求項2に記載の圧電光リレー。
- 前記固体スラグが、液体により濡らすことが可能な表面を有し、前記リレーが、
前記スイッチングチャネル内に位置し、液体により濡らすことが可能な表面を有する第1接触パッドと、
前記スイッチングチャネル内に位置し、液体により濡らすことが可能な表面を有する第2接触パッドと、
前記第1接触パッドと濡れた状態で接触する第1の液体の塊と、
前記第2接触パッドに濡れた状態で接触する第2の液体の塊とをさらに備え、
前記第1の液体の塊が、前記固体スラグが前記第1位置にある時に、前記固体スラグと前記第1接触パッドとの間を濡らすように構成され、前記第2の液体の塊が、前記固体スラグが前記第2位置にある時に、前記固体スラグと前記第2接触パッドとの間を濡らすように構成される、請求項1に記載の圧電光リレー。 - 前記スイッチングチャネル内において、前記第1および第2接触パッドの間に位置する第3接触パッドであって、前記第1液体の塊および第2液体の塊の一方と濡れた状態で接触する第3接触パッドをさらに備え、
前記第1光経路が、前記第1および第3接触パッドの間に位置する、請求項4に記載の圧電光リレー。 - 前記第2および第3接触パッドの間に位置する第2光経路をさらに備える、請求項5に記載の圧電光リレー。
- 前記第1および第2液体容量が液体金属容量を含む、請求項4に記載の圧電光リレー。

前記第1および第2圧電アクチュエータに対する電気接続を支持する回路基板層と、

第1および第2圧力除去通気孔を有する通気層と、
前記キャップ層と前記通気層の一方に形成された圧力除去チャネルと、
前記スイッチング層内の第1整列ノッチ内に配置された第1光導波管と、
前記スイッチング層内の第2整列ノッチ内に配置された第2光導波管とを備え、
前記第1および第2光導波管が、前記第1光経路の一部分を形成するように軸方向に整列し、前記第1および第2圧力除去通気孔が、前記スイッチングチャネルの両端を前記圧力除去チャネルに接続する、請求項1に記載の圧電光リレー。 - スイッチングチャネル内で移動可能な固体スラグを有する圧電光リレー内の光経路をスイッチングするための方法であって、
入力光信号を前記圧電光リレーの入力光導波管に結合し、前記入力光導波管が、出力光導波管と光学的に整列して、前記光経路を形成するステップと、
前記光経路が完成する場合、
第1圧電アクチュエータを付勢して、前記固体スラグを前記光経路から移動させ、その結果、前記入力光導波管が前記出力光導波管に光学的に結合するステップと、
前記光経路が遮断される場合、
第2圧電アクチュエータを付勢して、前記固体スラグ(132)を前記光経路内に移動させ、その結果、前記入力光導波管が、前記出力光導波管から光学的に減結合されるステップとを含む方法。
