SOLUTION: In this air filter 4, titanium oxide 1 is applied to or included in a filter material 2 constituting the filter so that a photocatalyst function is imparted to the filter. Impurities not completely removed by a conventional air filter and finer than the voids of the filter material 2 and gaseous impurities are stuck to the surfaces of the titanium oxide 1 of the filter material 2 and decomposed, so that the impurities intruding into the engine are reduced.
