Abstract

1319680 Bearings RUBBER PLASTICS Ltd 10 Nov 1971 [11 Nov 1970] 53636/70 Heading F2A The races of an angular contact ball-bearing assembly are made of an elastically deformable plastics material, and one race 1 has a shoulder 3 adjacent to its track over which the balls ride with elastic deformation of the races during assembly to give a snap-together construction. The mounting surfaces and/or the end faces of the races may be splined, 5, or otherwise relieved. The races may be shaped to form a labyrinth seal. A second row of balls may be provided to accommodate high axial loads in one direction, or axial loads in both directions, in which latter case a two-piece inner race is provided (Fig. 6, not shown). The balls may be accommodated in a cage, or in moulded pockets in one of the races. Opposed annular faces may be provided on the races such that they contact each other under shock loadings. The plastics material may be a polyamide, a polyacetal, a polyester, a polyurethane, a polyethylene, or a polypropylene, and may be filled with fibres or a lubricant.
