Abstract
1510058 Clutch release bearings SKF COMPAGNIE D'APPLICATIONS MECANIQUES 7 July 1976 [8 July 1975] 28265/76 Heading F2L In a clutch release bearing assembly comprising a rolling bearing having inner and outer bearing rings 1, 10, a sleeve 16 of elastic material which mounts the bearing assembly slideably and adjustably on a guide tube 13, has on its inner surface a plurality of ribs 17 which extend parallel to the axis of the bearing assembly, each rib having a profile which narrows towards its inner extremity. The ribs 17 which are inclined to the radial direction may extend the full length or part way along the sleeve and the wall of the sleeve which may be moulded on a tubular portion 2 of the inner bearing ring 1 may be provided with an annular recess (27) (Fig. 4, not shown) or blind holes (40) (Figs. 7, 8, not shown) in substantially the same radial plane of the sleeve as the ribs, the depth of the recess or holes from the adjacent end of the sleeve being selected in dependence upon the required radial flexibility of the sleeve. In use, a clutch release yoke 9 pivotally mounted by a pair of tabs 6 extending from an end flange 5 forming part of the inner ring 1 of the bearing is actuated to slide the bearing along the guide tube 13 to bring an annular portion 11 of the outer ring 10 into driving engagement with a diaphragm 12 of a clutch and thereby disengage the clutch, the sleeve 16 deforming, as necessary, to ensure alignment between the axes of the annular portion 11 and the diaphragm 12. The inner and outer rings 1, 10 may be formed by stamping and separated by a ring of balls 4 held by a cage 14 and protected by a cover 15.
