Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a method for the continuous stable culturing of microorganisms, and to improve the culturing efficiency, by using a bubble column fermentor or an air-lift fermentor, and culturing aerobically while controlling the gas/liquid maxing ratio in the fermentor. CONSTITUTION:In the aerobic culturing of yeast, bacteria, etc., in a bubble column or an air-lift fermentor, the culturing is conducted while controlling the gas/liquid mixing ratio within 0.3-0.9, pref. 0.5-0.8 by manually or automatically adjusting the amount of a anti-foaming agent or a surface active agent added to the fermentor, or the rae of aeration. The gas/liquid maxing ratio can be determined by measuring the pressures at two points of the fermentor, which are different in height, with diaphragms, and transmitting the pressures through capillaries to the high-pressure and the low pressure sides of a pressure difference gauge.
