  • Production Of Liquid Hydrocarbon Mixture For Refining Petroleum (AREA)

Abstract

Prodn. of a liq. fuel precursor which can be mixed with H2O and oil to produce a homogeneous fuel is carried out by first heating a 2-phase mixt. of carbon (pref. coke) H2O and oil (specific gravity 1) at 50-100 degrees C (pref. 70-100 degrees C) to evaporate the H2O from the lower phase (H2O + C) into intimate contact with the upper phase (oil+C). The residual liq. is then diluted with 20-60 wt.% of a light oil to form a homogeneous mixt., from which solid C is then sepd. The resulting liq. is then burned in the presence of O2, the flame is quenched by cutting off the O2 supply, and the liq. product is recovered. Fuels produced using the precursor can be used, e.g., for steam or electricity generation. A mixt. of 40% oil (11,000 gal/g), 30% precursor (5500 cal/g) and 30% H2O (0 cal/g) is stated to have a calorific value of 10,766 cal/g instead of the expected 6050 cal/g.
