Abstract
A catalyst is regenerated with simultaneous, controlled oxidn. of CO, by (a) feeding the catalyst into a regeneration zone; (b) separately feeding into the zone an activator for oxidn. of CO, in an amt. to activate oxidn. of CO to CO2; (c) feeding a regeneration gas contg. O2 into the zone, in amt. to burn off the coke and to give sufficient O2 for the required degree of combustion of the CO; (d) reacting a 1st part of the regeneration gas with the catalyst, under conditions to eliminate the coke and produce an effluent gas contg. CO and to cause combustion of CO to CO2. Process further comprises (e) at the same time contacting the effluent gas and a 2nd part of the regeneration gas with the activator, in the regeneration zone and in presence of the regenerated catalyst. This results in (1) supplying exothermal heat of reaction, to operate the regeneration zone, and (2) reducing the amt. of CO in the effluent gas. The catalyst is esp. from catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons. Cracking is in partic. at 420-600 degrees C, 1-4.5 atmos., catalyst:hydrocarbon ratio of 3-20, and contact time of 1-30 (1-10) seconds. The method of feeding the activator for CO oxidn. is economical. The process is flexible and can be applied to all fluid catalytic cracking processes. Heat damage to the regeneration plant is avoided by the controlled oxidn. of CO.
