Abstract
The catalyst is made from a cpd. of formula N25MgAl2-(OH)16CO3.4H2O, produced in aq. soln., by drying at 80-180 degrees C, calcining at 350-550 degrees C and subsequently reducing in a H2 stream. Between drying and calcining, the temp. is increased at 1.66-3.33 degrees C per min. Pref. drying is at 90-120 degrees C and calcining at 390-410 degrees C. The catalyst is used for prodn. of CH4-rich gas (e.g. as a substitute for natural gas) by reaction of gas mixts. contg. H2 and CO/CO2 under pressure and preheated to 200-300 degrees C. Pref. gases are obtained by steam-reforming and rich gas processes from hydrocarbons, esp. low-temp. naphtha cracking, and by autothermic catalytic or non-catalytic cracking of petrols, middle or heavy oils, or by gasification of coal or coal products. The catalyst is also suitable for low-temp. naphtha cracking. It is efficient at higher feed rates and lower temps., and retains its activity for longer periods than known alkalised Ni catalysts.
