Abstract

A continuous fluidized catalytic cracking process comprising a reaction step and a catalyst regeneration step, wherein a hydrocarbon feedstock is continuously contacted with a cracking catalyst in a reaction zone, under cracking conditions, for producing cracked hydrocarbon vapors and coke and hot contaminated catalyst, the coke contaminated catalyst being continuously charged to a regeneration zone to bring it into contact with a regenerating gas containing molecular oxygen, at elevated temperature and for a sufficient time to produce a regenerated catalyst with substantially reduced coke contamination, the catalyst being fluidized in the reaction zone by the upflow of the regenerating gas to form a dense phase catalyst bed and a diluted catalyst phase; which process comprises regenerating the coke-contaminated catalyst in the regeneration zone using an elevated temperature and a continuous flow of regenerating gas sufficient to convert practically all of the burnt coke into carbon dioxide.
