Abstract

Procedure for the regeneration of cracking catalysts, which are in the form of fluidizable particles, said particles being deactivated with coke deposits, according to which an oxygen-containing gas is passed through a fluidized bed of the catalyst particles in a first zone dense regeneration with particles, catalyst and in that a second relatively diluted zone with catalyst particles is arranged above the dense zone, characterized in that, to make possible the use of improved catalyst and heat in the cracking process, the Total oxygen admission ratio is at least stoichiometric for the conversion of the deposited coke to carbon dioxide, and because it additionally comprises the steps of: (a) introducing depleted particles of cracking catalyst, after effecting the separation of the residual material of votive oil, in a regeneration zone contained within a regeneration vessel and maintained at a regeneration temperature; (b) introducing into a first lower section in said regeneration zone a generation gas stream containing oxygen in an amount in excess of that required for the complete combustion of the coke contained in the exhausted catalyst particles and at a sufficiently high upward velocity to effecting the fluidization of said catalyst particular; (c) burning the coke from the depleted catalyst particles in contact with said oxygen-containing regeneration gas stream in said lower section of the mentioned regeneration zone at said regeneration temperature while maintaining the mentioned catalyst particles in a phase fluidized state is dense by the upward flow of the oxygen-containing gas stream, to provide a mixture comprising fluidized regenerated catalyst particles, together with oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; (d) substantially complete the combustion of carbon oxide in said regenerated gas stream to carbon dioxide in said upper section of said regeneration zone at a temperature high enough to withstand the combustion of carbon monoxide (e) circulate particles of regenerated catalyst fluidized upwardly from said lower section into the aforementioned upper section in an amount sufficient to absorb a larger portion of the combustion heat released by said carbon monoxide combustion; (f) absorbing said greater portion of the heat of combustion of carbon monoxide in the regenerated, fluidized and circulated catalyst particles in direct heat exchange contact in said upper section by said regeneration gas; (g) separating the spent regeneration gas, containing carbon dioxide, excess oxygen, and any unconverted carbon monoxide, from the captured catalyst particles and discharging the spent regeneration gas stream from the regeneration vessel; (h) removing the: regenerated catalyst particles, substantially free of coke, conserving the absorbed heat of combustion, coming from the combustion of carbon monoxide in said regeneration zone, and introducing said regenerated cracking catalyst particles inside from the cracking reaction zone.
