Abstract

A process for the regeneration of a coke-contaminated fluidizable catalytic cracking catalyst, which has been partially deactivated by carbonaceous deposits, and which consists of continuously introducing the coke-contaminated catalyst into a dense catalyst phase of a regeneration zone comprising a single fluidized dense phase of catalyst in the lower section of the regeneration zone, maintained at a temperature sufficient to allow combustion of carbonaceous deposits, and a diluted phase in the upper section of the regeneration zone, to bring the contaminated catalyst into contact of coke in the regeneration zone with an upstream stream of regeneration gas containing oxygen thereby combusting the carbonaceous deposits of the contaminated coke catalyst, recovering a flue gas containing carbon monoxide and recovering a regenerated catalyst with contamination reduced from coke, whose procedure is characterized by: a) maintaining the fluidized dense phase of catalyst in the regeneration zone at a temperature of approximately between 1275ºF (690ºC) and 1350ºF (732ºC); b) keeping the catalyst in the dense fluidized catalyst phase of the regeneration zone for a residence time of about 3 to 10 minutes and c) contacting the contaminated coke catalyst in the regeneration zone with an upstream of regenerating gas containing oxygen in excess of that required to effect combustion of the coke to carbon dioxide and to provide about 1 at 10 mole percent oxygen in the stack gas, to thereby recover a stack gas from the regeneration zone containing carbon monoxide in a ratio of the order of 0 to 500 ppm, recover a regenerated catalyst from the dense phase fluidized catalyst from the regeneration zone with a carbon content of not more than about 0.15% by weight and maintaining the dilute phase of catalyst from the regeneration zone at a temperature of approximately between 1375ºF (746ºC) and 1455ºF (790ºC)).
