Abstract
A vehicle power transmission device in which the following are provided so as to enable the transmission of torque between an input shaft to which the torque output by a drive power source is input and an output shaft which outputs the torque: a continuously variable transmission which continuously varies the transmission ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft; and a gear train which has at least one transmission ratio which cannot be set using the continuously variable transmission. A forward/reverse switching mechanism is arranged on the same axial line as the input shaft the forward/reverse switching mechanism carrying out differential action using three rotary elements: an input element; an output element; and a reaction element which by stopping to rotate rotates the input element and the output element in opposite directions. The vehicle power transmission device is provided with: a first clutch mechanism which connects at least any two of the three rotary elements; a brake mechanism which stops the rotation of the reaction element; a second clutch mechanism in which the input element and the output shaft are connected through the continuously variable transmission and which transmits and cuts off the torque to a first torque transmission route from the input shaft to the output shaft via the continuously variable transmission; and a third clutch mechanism in which the output element and the output shaft are connected through the gear train and which transmits and cuts off the torque to a second torque transmission route from the output element to the output shaft via the gear train.
