Claims (11)
1. A process for producing a bulked synthetic polyester yarn in which the yarn in a drawable state is fed by feed rolls via heating means and false twist means to draw rolls which are rotated at a peripheral speed higher than that of the feed rolls by an amount equivalent to the desired of the yarn draw ratio characterised in that the yarn in its passage from the false twist means to the draw rolls contacts one or more stationary guide surfaces with which the yarn makes a total wrap angle of from 5° to 30°.
2. A process as claimed in claim 1 characterised in that the total wrap angle is from 10° to 25°.
3. A process as claimed in claims 1 or 2 characterised in that the yarn linear speed at the draw rolls is greater than 70 metres per minute.
4. , A process as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the yarn is subsequently heated in a controlled longitudinally contracted -s-ta-te, condition.
5. Apparatus for drawing and false twisting a synthetic polyester yarn comprising essentially in sequence feed rolls, heating and false twist-ing- means and draw rolls characterised in that one or more stationary guide surfaces are so located between the false twist means and the draw rolls that yarn may contact the surface or surfaces with a total wrap angle of from 5° to 30°.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5 characterised in that a single stationary guide surface is located between the false twist means and the draw rolls.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 6 characterised in that the guide surface comprises a solid cylindrical pin.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 characterised in that the pin comprises a ceramic material and is of the order of 2,k mms in diameter.
9. Apparatus as claimed in any one of claims 6 to 8 characterised in that the guide surface is located within 1 cm of the yarn exit of the false twist means.
10. Apparatus as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9 characterised in that the false twist means comprises a positive twisting false twist spindle.
11. A bulked synthetic polyester yarn characterised by production according to any one of the processes of claims 1— -. 1-4. AGENTS FOR AP PLICANTS
