Abstract

1438972 Composite, bulky yarns TEIJIN Ltd 24 May 1973 25008/73 Headings D1F and D1W A composite, bulky yarn is produced by feeding a sheath yarn B to a core yarn A, which is being false-twisted by means of a false-twisting spindle, passing the yarns through a heater to heat set the yarns and then through the spindle in such a manner that yarn B becomes wrapped around yarn A prior to the heat setting, the process being carried out under conditions such that and where Tn is the number of turns per metre exerted by the false twisting spindle, DA and DB are the deniers of the yarns, and R is the overfeed ratio of the sheath yarn B. The ratio R is defined as where 11, 12 are the velocities of the core and sheath yarns. The position of the point at which yarn B contacts yarn A is maintained constant by means of a thread guide located along the core yarn at a point between the means for feeding the core yarn to the spindle and the point at which yarn B would contact yarn A if the guide were removed. Typical composite yarns are shown in Figs. 2(E) and 2(F). The composite yarn may be napped by passing the yarn over a rotating napper roller having a rough surface. The roller may be located between the heater and the spindle. Two of the composite yarns so produced may be formed into a composite yarn by bringing them together on the surface of a napper roller. Sheath yarn B may comprise two or more different yarns.
