Claims (10)

WHAT WE CLAIM 13:
1. A metallic heat exchange tube for conducting heat from a liquid flowing through the tube to a liquid in contact with the outer surface of the tube, said tube having its internal surface provided with a succession of generally circumferentially and inwardly extending convolutions proportioned to increase transfer of heat from the liquid flowing within the tube through the inner tube surface into the metal of the tube wall and provided on its outer surface with a continuous coating having a continuous substantially uniform thickness of .005 - .017" of a porous metallic material capable of increasing the transfer of heat from the metal of the tube wall through said coating into liquid in contact with the porous metallic coating.
2. A tube as defined in Claim 1 in which said tube is a thin-walled tube having a wall thickness of .020- .050 inches.
3. A tube as defined in Claim 2 in which said tube is corrugated, having outwardly and circumferentially extending convolutions disposed in alignment with the spaces between the inwardly extending convolutions at the interior of the tube.
4. A tube as defined in Claim 3 ia which said convolutions are helical.
5. A tube as defined in Claim 3 in which said convolutions are in the form of aingle-start helices.
6. A tube as defined in Claim 2 in which said tube has an outside diameter of .250 - 1.250 inches.
7. A tube as defined in Claim 6 in which said inwardly extending convolutions have a height of 1/64 - 3/64 inches. 35557/2
8. A tube aa defined in Claia 6 in which said Inwardly extending convolutions have an axial spacing between adjacent convolutions of 1/8 - 3/8 inches.
9. A tube as defined in Claim 5 in which the corrugations are in the form of a single-start helix having a height of 1/64 - 3/64 inches.
