Abstract

1458878 Concentric heat exchangers AGFAGEVAERT AG 19 Dec 1974 [24 Dec 1973] 54893/74 Heading F4S [Also in Division B1] A combined heat exchanger and static mixer comprises an outer tube 1 for a material to be treated (e.g. a photographic emulsion) an inner parallel tube 2 for a heat exchanger fluid and mixing elements 4 in the form of successive, angularly offset helical segments within the outer tube. These may also be an external jacket (8, Fig. 2, not shown) for a heat exchange fluid, having a helical baffle 7. Preferably the ratio C/A of the external diameter of the inner tubes to the internal diameter of the outer tube is in the range 1 : 1À9-2À3 and the diameter/length ratio A/B of each mixing element in the range 1 : 1-1À5.
