Cpds. of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I) R1 is cycloalkyl or opt. branched alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl with upto 6C and opt.substd. by 1-3 substits. chosen from halogen or opt. branched 1-4C alkyloxy, alhylthio, alkylsulphonyl or alkylsulphinyl or opt. substd. Ph; Al is N or -CR3=; R3 is H or R4; R4 is halogen or opt. branched alkyl or alkenyl with up to 6C and opt. 1-3 substits or R4 is cycloalkyl, CN, OH, NO2, PhO (opt. substd), -COR5, upto 6C alkanoylamino, -S(O)nR6, -SO2NR7R8 or CZ2NR7R8; R5 is 1-4C alkyl or alkyloxy, OH or opt. substd. Ph; n is 0, 1 or 2; R6 is opt. branched 1-4C alkyl or alkenyl (opt. carrying an opt. substd. Ph substis), cycloalkyl or opt substd. Ph; R7 and R8 are each H, opt. brached upto 4C alkyl or alkenyl (opt. carrying an opt. substd. Ph substit), cycloalkyl or opt. substd. Ph, or -NR7R8 is a hetero-cyclic gp; Z2 is O or S; A2 is N or if A1 is N, A2 is N or -CR3-; R2 is -S(O)nR6, -SO2NR7R8, -CSNR7R8, -CONR7R8 or -CZ2NHNo2; or if A1 is N or -CR4= or if A1 is -CH0 and Z1 is S, R2 can be -S(O)nR6, -SO2NR7R8, -CZ2NR7R8 or -CZ2NHNO2; -NR7R9 is a heterocyclic gp or R7 is as before and R9 is opt. branched upto 4C alkyl or alkenyl (opt. carrying an opt. substd. Ph substit . (I) are anticancer agents, found to be effective against various tumours (primary tumours, metastoses, Lewis lung carcinomas, B16 melanome, C38 tumour, rectal carcinomas) in rice.
