Abstract

1313945 N - Glycidyl - N<SP>1</SP> - # - methylglycidyl compounds CIBA-GEIGY AG 28 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 36590/70 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein Z represents >C=O or wherein each R 1 and R 2 denotes hydrogen atom or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, or R 1 and R 2 together form a divalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula wherein Z has the above-mentioned significance, with an epihalogenohydrin in the presence of a catalyst and an agent which splits off hydrogen halide. The Example I describes the preparation of 1 - glycidyl - 3 - (# - methylglycidyl) - 5,5- dimethylhydantoin; the intermediate 3 - (#- methylglycidyl) -5,5-dimethylhydantoin is prepared by reacting 5,5-dimethylhydantoin with #- methylepichlorohydrin. The Example 2 relates to the preparation 1-glycidyl-3-(#-methylglycidyl) - 5 - ethyl - 5 - methylhydantoin; the intermediate 3 - (# - methylglycidyl) - 5 - ethyl - 5- methylhydantoin is prepared by reacting 5-ethyl- 5 - methylhydantoin with # - methylepichlorohydrin. The Example 3 relates to the preparation of 1-glycidyl-3-(#-methylglycidyl)-1,3-diazaspiro - [4,5] - decane - 2,4 - dione; the intermediate 3 - (# - methylglycidyl) - 1,3 - diazaspiro- [4,5]-decane-2,4-dione is prepared by reacting 1,3 - diazospiro - [4,5] - decane - 2,4 - dione with #-methylepichlorohydrin.
