Abstract

1. A drive for service vehicles having an engine and a gear-shift transmission securely connected thereto, a rear-axle gear, and in a special case also a front-axle gear and where appropriate a retarder, the entire driving train being arranged in an underfloor design, characterized in that the engine (3) arranged between the front axle (4) and the rear axle (5) is connected to a gear-shift transmission (6) arranged immediately before the front axle (4), the drive (8) of the said gear-shift transmission (6) being provided in the opposite direction to the engine drive or alternatively being connected by means of a separate reverse gear (7, 7') by way of shafts (10, 12, 15, 18, 19) to the rear-axle gear (13) end optionally also to a front-axle gear or to both the rear-axle gear end the front-axle gear.

Description

The Invention relates to a drive for service vehicles having en engine end a gear-shift transmission securely connected thereto, a rear-axle gear, and In a special case also a front-axle gear and where appropriate a retarder, the entire driving train being arranged In an underfloor design.
Underfloor drives for service vehicles are generally known, but only for vehicles with a specific minimum wheel base, so that thia advantageous use of the underfloor drive only applies to conventional means of transport, namely lorries with loading ramps and where appropriate with e trailer, while in the case of lorries with a short wheel base and In particular seal-trailer trucks, which are coming onto the market to an Increasing extent, It has not been possible until now to Integrate the particularly advantageous fora of the drive on account of the Insufficiently long wheel bases.
The arrangement of a driving train, In which the transmission drive of a first gear-shift transmission Is arranged In the opposite direction to the engine drive, le known froa DE-A-27 47 786. The transmission drive of the gear-shift transmission Is connected to the drive of a second gear-shift transmission. A special arrangement for underfloor design Is not Involved here. Another prior publication Fahrverketechnik: Antriebsarten (Chassis technology: | Types of drive] by Preukechat, Vogelbuch-Verlag WUrzburg, discloses the driving train of a racing car. In which the gear-shift transmission I Is attached not to the engine but to the front-exle gear.
The object of the - Invention ie to devise en expedient arrangement of the driving train for vehicles with a short wheel base, In particular articulated « lorries. ! I I 1 . * This is attained according to the Invention In that the engine arranged between the( front axle and the rear axle le connected to a gear-shift transmission arranged Immediately In front of the front axle, the drive of the said gear-shift transmission being provided In the opposite direction to the engine drive or alternatively being connected by means of a separate reverse gear by way of shafts to the rear-axle' gear and optionally also to a front-axle gear or to both the rear-axle gear end the front-axle gear.
There ere numerous advantages with such en arrangement. Thus, en optimum weight distribution with a low location of the centre of gravity of the vehicle is achieved. In this way, the travelling behaviour Is improved on the one hand and the stability is Increased on the other. In particular, various advantages with new design possibilities are also provided for the driver's cab. By dispensing with the arrangement of the engine below the driver's cab even In the case of trailer trucks, a reduction in noise in the driver's cab is achieved for this type of vehicle. By dispensing with the engine bonnet Inside the cab a larger Interior is also mads possible. In addition, drivers' cabs or components thereof can be used outside the standard programme, representing on economic factor of considerable Importance. Linked thereto Is also the possibility of Implementing low entry, which is particularly important for distributor vehicles. Enclosing the engine space is effective and can be achieved with simple means, since no sprung axis passes through the enclosed space.
According to a particularly simple embodiment of the Invention, the reverse gear la flange-mounted directly on the gear-shift transmission. In this way, an Inexpensive embodiment is provided.
According to another embodiment, the reverse gear is arranged at a distance from the gear-shift transmission, and both are connected together by means of Cel cardan shaft. In this way, a transmission standardized for the normal forward-control design can be used in an original manner. In both embodiments a drive to a retarder or even to a possibly driven front axle is possible In principle.
According to a feature of the invention, a shaft taken off from the drive of the reverse gear is mounted In a support securely connected to the engine and la connected to the rear-axle gear by way of a cardan shaft. In thia case the existing engine with its stable housing end its numerous possibilities of existing fastening positions is used for mounting the supports.
Further advantages end features of the invention may be seen in the claims, the description and the drawings.
The invention ie illustrated in three embodiments. lh the drawings Fig. 1 Is a lateral elevation of a lorry with an underfloor drive; Fig. 2 la a plan view of a lorry with an underfloor drive; Fig. 3 la a lateral elevation of a modification of the lorry with an underfloor drive; Fig. 4 la a plan view of a modification of the lorry with an underfloor drive; 4 Fig. 5 Is a lateral elevation of a further modification of the lorry with an j underfloor drive; Fig. 6 la a plan view of a further modification of the. lorry with an underfloor drive.
Fig. 1 shows a lorry, preferably In the design of an articulated lorry, having a driver's cab (1) and a driving train (2), the engine (3) being arranged In an underfloor design between the front axle (4) and the rear axle <5> and the engine being connected to a gear-shift transmission (6) which extends In the direction of the front axle <4>. According to Fig. 2, the gear-shift transmission (6) comprises a drive (8) Integrally connected thereto and arranged In the opposite direction to the engine drive. The drive Is effected by a rigid shaft (10) which Is mounted In a support (ll) secured to the engine, while et the other end a cardan shaft (12) driving the rear-axle transmission (13) Is connected to the shaft (10). Figs. 3 and 4 show the device according to the invention with a separate reverse gear (back gear) (7) which Is flange-mounted directly on the transmission (6) and the drive <8> of which Is connected to the rear-axle gear (13) In the same way as also shown In Figs. 1 and 2.
A further modification le Illustrated In Flge. 5 and 6. Xn contrast to Figs. 3 and 4, In this case the reverse gear (7*) Is arranged et a distance from the gear-shift transmission (6) and Is connected thereto by way of (a) cardan shaft (14). In this embodiment too, the drive (O') le also arranged In J the opposite direction to the engine drive. A cardan ehaft (15) le connected to the drive, and is connected In- turn to (a) rigid shaft (18) mounted In supports (16 and 17) secured to the engine O>. The shaft (18) Is connected to a cardan shaft (19) which drives the rear-axle gear (13). Other driven elements such es a retarder or drive for the front axle can also of course be connected to the reverse gear (7, 7*).
