Abstract

1481792 Lintels CATNIC COMPONENTS Ltd 26 July 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 37032/73 Heading E1K A beam or lintel for supporting brickwork is of dovetail cross-section comprising a top portion 2 and converging side portions 5, 5a provided with outwardly-directed flanges 3, 3a which in part define rebates 9 for keying of the rendering, at least a part of each flange being horizontal in use and extending to a point near or at, but not beyond, the lateral extent of the top portion 2. The flanges may terminate in lips 6 which may, as shown, extend beyond the corners 4, 4a, or may terminate in alignment with the corners 4, 4a (Fig. 3, not shown), or be at right-angles to the flanges (Fig. 4, not shown). The lintels may be rolled from a piece of pre-galvanized sheet steel or formed by pressing the lintels may again be made from mild sheet steel, aluminium, plastics reinforced with carbon fibres or a metal coated with a plastics. The lintels may be adapted to span a double-skin wall and may only embody one inclined wall 5 and flange 3.
