Abstract
1427246 Malting BARRETT BROS and BURSTON & CO PTY Ltd 27 July 1973 [31 July 1972 11 April 1973] 35857/73 Heading C6E Cereal grain is steeped and germinated, then entrained in water and pumped, the pump having an outlet pressure of at least 5 psi, to a germination vessel wherein the water is drained off and the grain is kept at 20-40C for not more than 48 hours with continuous aeration, after which the grain is dried. The pump outlet pressure preferably does not exceed 40 psi. Minor amounts of gibberellic acid and potassium bromate may be added before or during the initial germination. The operation is preferably completed within 36 hours of pumping and the malt, after drying, has a fine-coarse extract difference of not more than 3%.
