Abstract

1377836 Foundry moulding processes and apparatus AKITA KK 17 Oct 1972 [18 Feb 1972] 47729/72 Heading B3F A method of making a foundry mould comprises applying to a pattern 1 a layer of parting agent 22, 23 (e.g. epoxy resin powder applied by electrostatic spraying), applying to the parting agent a layer 24, 25 of shield film (e.g. by painting on and drying a synthetic resin composition), moving flasks 7, 8 adjacent the pattern 1, compacting sand 26, 27behind the film-layers 24, 25 (e.g. by a vibrator 21), applying suction to the compacted sand 26, 27 to bring the film layers 24, 25 into intimate contact with the compacted sand 26, 27 and separating the pattern 1 from the flasks 7, 8. The flasks 7, 8 have filter vent plates 13, 14, 15, 16 behind which are spaces 9, 10 connected by ducts 17, 18 to apparatus (not shown) for applying suction to the sand 26, 27. During suction the flask-filling apertures 19, 20 are covered by lids of synthetic resin film, 28, 29. In order readily to separate the pattern 1 from the formed mould, ducts 4, 5 are formed in the pattern 1 into which compressed air is blown to form the film layers 24, 25 away from the pattern 1 after moulding.
