Abstract

1364961 Portable drill HILTI AG 15 June 1972 [21 July 1971] 27951/72 Heading B3C [Also in Division B4] A rotary percussive drill, including an electric motor 1 which provides drive for means for rotating a tool 19 and for means for applying axially directed impacts to the tool, is provided with means whereby the rotary drive to the tool 19 can be disengaged so that only impacts are applied to the tool. The tool 19 is received in a holder 18 for rotation therewith and axial movement relative thereto, and the holder is rotatable with cylinder 14 housing a hammer piston 16 and a drive piston 15. Rotation of the cylinder 14 is effected by means of a sleeve 12 provided with gear teeth keyed to the cylinder for rotation therewith but movable axially relative to the cylinder and biased by a spring 23 towards a pinion 11 driven by the electric motor 1 which also effects reciprocation of the drive piston via a crank arrangement. Movement of the sleeve 12 against bias of spring 23 so as to disconnect its teeth from pinion 11 is effected by rotation in one direction of a cylindrical element 28 provided with an eccentric pin 27 engaging in slots 25a, 26a in a slide 25 and a blocking element 26 respectively. Such rotation from a first position (i.e. that of Fig. 1) to a second position (Fig. 3, not shown) causes the slide 25 to move, via a slidable sleeve 24, the sleeve 12 against the spring 23 and out of engagement with the pinion. In this second position manual rotation of the tool 19 is possible. Further rotation of the element 28 in the one direction from the second position to a third position (Fig. 5, not shown) moves the blocking element 26 to a position in which its teeth 26b engage the teeth on the sleeve 12. In this third position the teeth on the sleeve 12 are still out of engagement with the pinion and the tool is also prevented from being manually rotated. A spring biased detent 30 is engageable in recesses corresponding to the first, second and third positions so that the element 28 can be held in a selected one of those positions. [GB1364961A]
