Abstract
1362810 Separating fat VIOBIN CORP 29 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 29008/71 Heading C5C Fat is separated from meat or fish which contains a substantial amount of water by dividing the meat or fish into particles, heating the particles by contact with a stream of gas at a temperature above the boiling point of water, but for a time no longer than needed to evaporate the water, slurrying the particles in a solvent for the fat, and separating the particles from the slurry and then the solvent from the fat. The hot gas may be air or super-heated steam, and may serve to transport the particles. The particles may be heated to coagulate them before they contact the gas. The solvent may be held below its boiling point or it may be one that forms an azeotrope with water, be held at the boiling point, and vapours of solvent and water then withdrawn to complete the drying of the meat or fish. Slurry so dried may then be transferred to another vessel where it is heated to the boiling point of the solvent.
