Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently and economically prepare carrageenan, by the injection by a carrageenan, extract into an aqueous alkali metal solution, followed by the dehydration, drying and crushing, of the gel obtained.
CONSTITUTION: A carrageenan extract obtained by the hot water extraction of a red algal (a seaweed belonging to gigartinaceae, solieriaceae, etc.) is cooled to a temperature of 20W50°C, and injected into a 0.5W5% aqueous alkali solution as a fine stream. Then carrageenan is obtained by separating, dehydrating, (by means of alcohol dehydration, pressing, etc.), drying and crushing the fibros carrageenan gel obtained. The above method makes it possible to easily prepare a carrageenan soluble at normal temperature, which can not be prepared by the conventional method.
