1307153 Abrasive materials DE BEERS INDUSTRIAL DIAMOND DIVISION Ltd 27 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 17549/71 Heading C4V Diamond particles of the MD or the SD type have a composite coating comprising a thin continuous layer of titanium adjacent the diamond surface and an outer layer of a metal compatible with titanium, the interface between the diamond and the titanium being free of titanium carbide. The metal of the outer layer may be iron, nickel, cobalt or alloys of these and this coating may comprise between 10 and 100% of the weight of the uncoated diamond. An abrasive wheel may be obtained by locating the coated diamond in a suitable matrix material and treating the matrix at a temperature of greater than 500‹ C. [GB1307153A]
