1,243,672. Reinforced concretes. UNITED STATES STEEL CORP. 15 Aug., 1968 [25 Aug., 1967], No. 39161/68. Heading C1H. A reinforced composite includes a concrete matrix, and a plurality of discontinuous randomly distributed filaments of glass, nylon, titanium, tungsten, copper, lead, steel or aluminium, the filaments being of non-round cross-section and having width to thickness ratio not greater than 5, a width of 0À005- 0À15 inch; a thickness of 0À001-0À03 inch, and a length of -3 inches. 1À5 to 3À5% volume are present in the concrete. The filaments can be crimped, cambered or twisted, and can be coated with e.g. resins. Other reinforcement, e.g. rod, bar, or mesh, can also be present.
