Abstract

999,681. Two-part couplings. A. ALFORD. Aug. 13, 1963, No. 31947/63. Heading H2E. A coupling for joining two coaxial cables of different diameters, comprising a first section 11 having an inner and an outer conductor, 21 and 13, and a second section 12 having an inner and an outer conductor 24 and 15, of respectively different diameters from those of the first section, there being two bevelled portions 31, 26, as shown. The bevelled portions are axially offset from one another but may still partly overlap one another, and the central conductor assembly may be supported by a " Teflon " (Registered Trade Mark) spacer 23. The coupling may serve to maintain a constant Voltage Standing Wave Ratio when joining cables of the same characteristic impedance, when for example a " slotted line " for making precise H.F. measurements is joined via a smaller diameter cable to signal-generating apparatus.
