Abstract

1,116,645. Matching impedances. AMP Inc. 3 Sept., 1965 [9 Sept., 1964], No. 37642/65. Heading H1W. [Also in Division H2] A coaxial connector for use with an R.F. transmission line comprises inner and outer conductors 4 and 5 which are spaced apart by two different dielectric materials, in the example given an insulating material 6 separated from the cable insulation 1 by air, the dielectrics being arranged in such a way that the transmission impedance at any point in the connector is equal to the transmission impedance of the line itself. At any discontinuity in the diameter of either of the conductors, a change from one dielectric to the other is made, the end portions of the dielectrics being shaped to render the impedance constant. The shaping may be determined graphically or by calculation.
