Abstract

999,643. Clutch control. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 35878/61. Heading F2L. The electromagnetic powder clutch control circuits described in Specification 993,631, in which a clutch winding 35 is supplied with current pulses derived from the engine ignition system, is modified by the inclusion of a resistor 121, which is inserted into the surge circuit of the clutch winding at vehicle speeds above 15 k.p.h. At speeds below this value the resistor 121 is shorted through a centrifugal switch 90 (which opens above 15 k.p.h.) and a rectifier 122. The clutch is thus de-energized rapidly during gear changes at speeds above 15 k.p.h., while for starting the de-energization time is relatively large. In order to facilitate push-starting of the vehicle a capacitor 128 of at least 0.5 ÁF and preferably 10 ÁF, is connected in parallel with a resistor 83 which is located between the positive lead 51 and the base of the switching transistor 82. During such starts, the switch 90 opens when 15 k.p.h. is exceeded, causing the output transistors to be conductive and the clutch to engage, thereby braking the vehicle and causing the switch 90 to close. After closing of the switch 90, the capacitor 128 maintains for about half a second the potential of the base of the transistor 82 at the value effective when the switch is open and thus delays de-energization of the clutch.
