Abstract

1495309 Transistor pulse circuits FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 27 Oct 1975 [8 Jan 1975] 44001/75 Heading H3T [Also in Division Fl] A frequency responsive switching circuit comprises a first monostable 144 including a timing circuit P1, R6, C4, the output of the first monostable being coupled to the input of a second monostable 146 which includes a timing circuit R9, C6 and means R12, D5 for modifying the time constant of the timing circuit of the first monostable in dependence on the state of the second monostable. In one state of the second monstable, output terminal 9 is at a high level and diode D5 is conductive to connect resistor R12 in parallel with series connected potentiometer P1 and resistor R6. In this state, the time constant of the first monostable is 1/f 1 where f 1 is 125 Hz. In the other state of the second monostable, the diode D5 is non-conducting and the time constant of the first monostable is 1/f 0 where f 0 is 123 Hz. If an input pulse train at 114 from a car ignition coil 136, 138 is lower than f 0 , the first monostable 144 completes its timing cycle for each input pulse to provide triggering pulses for the second monostable 146. These pulses maintain the monostable 146 in its unstable state with output 9 high and diode D5 conductive. In this condition transistor Q3 is conductive to hold transistor Q4 off an inhibit operation of a solenoid (not shown) in the collector circuit of Q4. If the frequency of the input pulse train increases above f 1 , monostable 144 cannot complete its timing cycle before it is reset by a reset pulse on 4 and its output remains at a high level except during reset pulses at 4. Time constant circuit C5, R7 removes these pulses from the output so that input 8 of the second monostable 146 remains at a high level and the monostable 146 times out. Output 9 then falls to a low level cutting off transistor Q3 to turn on Q4 and energize the solenoid (not shown) in its collector circuit. When output 9 falls, diode D5 is also cut-off changing the time constant of the first monostable 144 to provide hysteresis, since the input frequency must fall to below f 0 before the circuit reverts to its initial state. The solenoid prevents the throttle of a vehicle being completely closed when the engine speed is above a predetermined level.
