Abstract

1,270,489. Ignition systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Oct. 16, 1970 [Oct. 18, 1969], No. 49195/70. Heading F1B. An ignition device for an internal combustion engine comprises a D.C. converter 15 for charging an ignition condenser 22, a controllable electronic discharging switch 29 for discharging the condenser through the primary winding 25 of an ignition transformer 26 and a signal generator 30 adapted to be operated in timed relation with the engine to produce a trigger pulse for controlling the discharging switch the trigger pulse being also utilized for changing over the switching state of an electrically controllable auxiliary switch 79 arranged to prevent the ignition condenser being charged by the D.C. converter for at least the deionisation time of the discharging switch. As shown the signal generator 30 comprises a conventional circuit breaker but this may be replaced by a photo-electric or magneto electric signal generator. The D.C. converter 15 may be a single ended converter or a push-pull converter.
