Abstract

998,362. Ventilators. ALLIED THERMAL CORPORATION. Oct. 23, 1962 [March 29, 1962], No. 40043/62. Heading F4V. An air distributing unit for delivering air from a duct 1 to an enclosure has a rectangular cross-section casing comprising a collar 2 fitting into the duct 1 and walls 3 flared towards a perforated plate 8, flanges 7 of which abut a wall or ceiling 5, and inner and outer sets of angularly adjustable air-directing vanes, the projected area of the vanes and their supporting members on the perforated plate 8 being greater than the cross-sectional area of the air inlet 2. As illustrated, the vane support comprises diverging wire legs 12, 13, 16 and 17 welded to the flared walls 3 and secured to a support member 9. Four inner trapezial vanes 22, 23, 24, 25 are provided with hinge members 34-37, 50 and 51 integral with or attached to the vanes which pivot on L-shaped wire members 38, 41, 44 and 47 secured to the wire legs. An outer set of trapezial vanes 52- 55 are pivotally supported in the same manner on the wire legs. The air deflecting vanes may thus be set to give a desired pattern of air flow from the unit. In modifications, Figs. 3-7 (not shown), the unit is square or rectangular, the inner set of vanes are integral with the support member and slots are provided along the join at which the vanes are bent to the required position, and the inner and outer vanes are formed integrally with tabs mounted on the wire legs so that they may be similarly bent to the required positions.
