Abstract
998,340. Trigger mechanisms. SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE. June 4, 1964 [June 19, 1963], No. 24372/63. Heading F3C. Trigger mechanism includes a spring-actuated hammer 1 incorporating a cocking bent 8, a spring-loaded sear 2 for engaging the bent to hold the hammer in a cocked position and a firing member 3 for engaging the sear to move it, against the spring-loading 14, out of engagement with the bent to release the hammer. The sear is also spring-urged to move out of engagement with the firing member, on release of the hammer, whereupon its spring- loading returns it to a position for re-engaging the bent. In operation, a pivoted lever 29 draws the pullrod 22 rearwardly so that claws 28 on the fork 24 of the pullrod engage the sear to rotate it about pivot 15 until the hammer is released. Immediately thereafter spring 14 causes the sear to slide downwardly, pin 15 moving relatively to elongated slot 16, bringing claws 28 opposite recess 21, thus enabling sear 2 to be rotated clockwise by spring 14. The hammer when returned by the recoiling breech-block re-engages the sear and raises it to its upper position on release of the pullrod 22. In modifications the sear slides in two directions at right angles and the firing member is a pivoted member.
