997,615. Refrigerators; cold retaining vessels. H. STANEK. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 9, 1962], No. 39849/63. Headings F4H and F4U. Live fish spawn, eggs, or fresh water fish are stored on trays 7 in a thermally insulated container 1, the trays resting one upon another and a space 22 being left below the lowermost tray for the accumulation of water from cooling ice 12 on the top tray. The trays are made of foamed plastic or compressed cork, are formed in their bases with slots 11 widening in the downward direction for the passage of water, and have recesses 7a and 7b to allow them to be tied together. The stack of trays rests on supports 8 and each tray has top projections 9 for engaging corresponding recesses in the bottom of the tray above. The space 22 is filled with moss or felt to absorb water. A lid 16 having ventilation openings 17 fits in a recess 3 at the top of the container and a recess 4 extending around the container receives a paper packing 20 which is reinforced with cords or fibre glass strings and has openings 19 above the lid. A recess 21 in the lid is lined with an air permeable insert to prevent the packing 20 sticking to the lid and closing the ventilation openings. A heat reflecting layer may be present on the outside of the container and comprise a plastics or metal foil stuck on to the container. Alternatively aluminium paint may be used or liquid aluminium may be sprayed on to the container.
