Abstract

997,529. Bail handles. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Aug. 12, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962 (3)], No. 31732/63. Heading A4A. [Also in Division B8] A bail handle 28 for a container formed with a bead 27 has a loop 33 at an angle to the adjacent part of the handle, the loop 33 and its attachment lug having interengaging cam surfaces. As the handle is raised, it is forced outwards so that it clears the bead; in its lowered position it lies close to the container wall. The loop 33 and the lug 31 are contained in the space below the beads 27 of adjacent containers. As seen in side elevation the loop 33 may be curved, Fig. 4 (not shown). As shown in Fig. 7, the lug 31 may have a diagonal slot which achieves the same effect of camming the handle. Again, Fig. 10, the lug may be a hollow member having a cam surface 41 which acts against the inwardly sprung handle as the handle is raised; or, Figs. 13-17 (not shown), the handle may be sprung outwards and be cammed inwards by an inner surface of the lug as the handle is lowered.
