Abstract

997,483. Transformers. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. May 24, 1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 24497/61. Heading H1T. The magnetic core of an electromagnetic induction apparatus is provided with extensions on selected vertical limbs by which a substantial part of the weight of the transformer is transmitted to an external support to enable it to be moved without inducing bending stresses in the enclosing tank. Fig. 4 shows a three-phase transformer core 1 with yokeclamping plates 4, 5 and vertical clamping plates 6, 7 having extensions 10 which are used to support the core and windings on the shelf 3a of the tank 3, said shelf being supported on the cross beams 11. The extensions 10 may alternatively extend at right angles to the plane of the clamping members and the supporting members may pass through the tank. A gap may be provided between the lower surface of the extension and the upper surface of the shelf so that the core normally rests on the bottom of the tank, an adjustable spacer being provided to fill the gap before lifting. This spacer may consist of wedges which slide over one another or may be hydraulic jacks. Alternatively, the extensions may have pins 15 (Fig. 8a) which pass through holes in the shelf and into bellows 17 sealed to the underside. The supporting beams then take the load of the core through the pins and the bellows compress until the stop 20 rests on the beam, thereby supporting the tank.
