Abstract

A polymeric composition comprises 1 part by weight of highly isotactic polypropylene and from 0.25 to 1.5 part by weight of modified propylene polymer consisting of highly isotactic polypropylene chains, to the ends of which are attached chains of ethylene-propylene copolymer, the proportion of homopolymer in the modified propylene polymer being at least 50% by weight, the proportion of polymerized ethylene in the modified polymer being from 2 to 20% by weight, the total proportion of polymerized ethylene in the composition being from 1 to 8% by weight. The modified propylene polymer may be made either by polymerizing propylene in the presence of a titanium trichloride/aluminium diethyl chloride catalyst and then continuing polymerization with a mixture of propylene and ethylene, or by first polymerizing a propylene/ethylene mixture and then continuing the polymerization with pure propylene. The compositions may also contain, as crystal-modifying compounds, carboxylic acids and their aluminium salts. Specification 997,250 is referred to.
