Abstract
Polymers or copolymers are prepared by polymerizing or copolymerizing an unsaturated monomer containing the group <FORM:0996487/C3/1> in which R, R1 and R2 each represent hydrogen or a monovalent radical of a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and Z represents the residue of a monobasic or polybasic inorganic or organic acid. Monomers given in the examples are <FORM:0996487/C3/2> and <FORM:0996487/C3/3> while monomers listed are vinyl esters, vinyl chloride, styrene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, N-methylolacrylamide vinylidene chloride, ethylene acrylic and methacrylic acids esters, and maleic and fumaric esters. The polymerization may take place in solution, suspension, emulsion or substance in the presence of benzoyl or diacetyl peroxide, t-butyl hydroperoxide, azobisisobutyronitrile, hydrogen peroxide, potassium persulphate and redox systems.
