Abstract
The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:0996247/C4-C5/1> wherein one L is a hydroxy group and the other is a phenylazo group which may be substituted; n is 1, 2 or 3; p is 1 or 2; R is hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group; R1 and R2 are methyl groups and R3 and R4 are hydrogen or a methyl group or when R3 and R4 are hydrogen R1 and R2 are joined to form a tetra- or penta-methylene radical or R1 and R3 and R2 and R4 are joined together to form in each case a trimethylene radical; and X is a divalent mono- or di-chloropyrimidyl or 5-cyanochloropyrimidyl radical or divalent 1,3,5-triazinyl radical substituted in the 6-position by hydrogen, a C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy group, a phenyl, phenoxy, amino, N-(C1-C4 alkyl) amino or anilino or N-(C1-C4 alkyl) anilino which may be substituted. The dyes are prepared by reacting a hydrazine of formula <FORM:0996247/C4-C5/2> with an azo dye of formula <FORM:0996247/C4-C5/3> or by coupling a diazotized phenylamine with a coupling component of formula <FORM:0996247/C4-C5/4> wherein one L1 is a hydroxy group and the other a hydrogen atom. Specified hydrazines are N,N,N1 - trimethyl - and N,N,N1,N - tetramethyl - hydrazines, N - amino - piperidine or - pyrrolidine, 1,5 - diazobicylo - (0,3,3) - octane and, preferably, N,N-dimethylhydrazine. The dyes may be used to colour wool, silk and polyamide and in particular cellulose textiles by the usual reactive dye processes in red shades. The preparation of the dyes is described in examples.
